How did you decide what to do with your life?
It made sense, considering my interests at the time; made my choice at 16. Also picked up a book about it in high school. Though I didn't understand some of the content, the profession still seemed right.

What (if any) was the catalyst for making such a decision?
I literally couldn't see myself doing anything else. At that time.

Do you have regrets about it now?
Hm... I say yes and no. I got to follow my biggest passion (at that time back then) to get a degree. It was a great experience where I was out of my comfort zone.
But I'm at the point where the passion is just a job. I leave work and don't want to consume anything that has to do with the industry.

Are you happy?
Heh. No, I'm not. I actually found a bunch of old projects from uni the other day. That was when I realized that I'm not working towards certain goals I have, the reasons I chose the profession. So I'm at that point where I'm reevaluating my choices. Trying to figure out what I want to do next.
Is keeping my passions separate from my job more ideal for me? Maybe - I'm still thinking about it. Because it honestly could just be the tasks I have at that particular job.

Anyway, that's where I am now. An important thing to remember is that people change. Not liking my choices doesn't mean I failed. I don't think I'm at the point where I've decided what I wanna do with my life, and that's okay. Highschoolers aren't supposed to have it all figured out anyway.

When I was in high school back in the late 2000s-early 2010s, I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do career-wise. I knew I wanted to go to university and get my Bachelor's in what I was passionate about, which was history. The goal sounded reasonable at that time.

Instead, I procrastinated during college application season in my senior year of HS. So, I applied to my local community college and pursued my Associate's in History.

Even though it took me 4 years to do it (I failed and repeated a few classes), I got my Associate's. During my 1 year break, I realized that I had no idea what I could do with an Associate’s since I didn’t realize I learned no practical skills as a history major.

I never talk about it much, but I have always been interested in writing since I was a preteen. Even though most of my focus was on fan fiction, I enjoyed writing. What I did in 2016 was go back to school and pursue my bachelor’s in a major that combines one of my interests and also gain the practical skills I needed to learn. That was Communications and Media Studies.

It took me 2 years to do and I felt accomplished. While I did struggle to get an actual job, I was able to figure out a way to get some type of experience even if that meant volunteering. The volunteer work that I have done was working on two different K-Pop forums from 2018 to 2022.

I was able to use some of the skills I learned at University while volunteering on those K-Pop forums. In between that, I was able to do an internship for a local online publication for 10 months.

While I don’t currently have a job yet, I am working with someone who has been helping me take those steps to find a job. What I have been doing is sprucing up my resume and doing interest surveys so I can pinpoint what interests me.

I’m not going to lie, I have made questionable decisions back in the past that I easily regret. Also part of me wished that I could’ve put more effort into job searching and tried to get an entry-level job based on what I liked to do at an earlier age.

For the most part, I’m taking small steps and I do feel my current efforts will pay off at some point even though I’m in my early 30s.

you are so strong :izhug: I hope that life and the future will be kind to you because it's really not easy to survive nowadays. have you found a separate passion you're interested in pursuing lately? any hobby or special way you like to spend your free time?

It sounds like those small steps you've been taking have led you to a sound place so far, I hope that you're able to get a job doing something you like that also pays well :izhug: Some of the advice I've heard lately is "why is there such a rush to get where you're going? what's the end goal? death?" and that reminded me that yeah, life is just a moment of time from birth until death. There is no finish line, no due dates. Everyone goes at their own pace and I think that's wonderful :pepeheart:

Since early this year, I thought why not apply to become a volunteer at an op shop just to get some work experience so that I can have it included on my resume in the future.

It was actually my employment consultant from a job provider that I had last year that recommended me to apply for volunteering roles in order for me to get some relevant experience that I would need whenever I apply for jobs in the future. Actually, it wasn’t until I decided to start applying for a volunteer face to face role since early this year. Prior to that I was usually hesitant to apply for these kinds of roles because I was scared of the challenges that I was gonna face when it comes to having to be with other volunteers and having to talk to customers. But actually when I started my very first shift volunteering there, the managers and the other volunteers actually turned out to be really nice people and I found them easy to talk to.

Now, almost 2 months later, I think it was the best decision to that I’ve ever made this year despite having a lot of doubts and fear of the challenges I knew I was gonna face the whole time, and I do like working in there. :)

It was actually after one of my close friends told me that they got a call from the same op shop that they applied a volunteer role at that actually lead me to start applying for it too without hesitation, all thanks to her. I think I be should be proud of myself too for deciding to take the risk and put myself out there.

I’ve also started getting into penpaling too, hopefully to make some long term connections with people I’ll be penpaling with. Can’t wait till I can send over some letters to them and receive them soon! And hopefully that continues for me and those people I’m gonna be penpals with for the long term!

I knew I wanted to work with kids because I wanted to help kids in the way I wish I was. I constantly question if I am doing this for all the right reasons and if it’s worth it.
I think wanting to be the change you never experienced is one of the most powerful reasons you can have :pepeheart:

Yeah. I just revised and enhanced my entire resume not long ago. Now, I need to look for job leads.

I hope it always stays that way :pepeheart:
sometimes we do get strange customers that wanna ruin our days and that’s actually the reason why I’ve never wanted to apply for customer service roles especially, but I mean we get those kinds of customers at every customer service jobs really lol
But thank god the manager has never made me do the register/counter cause otherwise that would’ve been complete hell for me lol.

As someone that usually only does the clothes stocking duty, it’s always interesting for me to see and encounter some people being like that when they don’t have to talk to me and I’m like very far away from them :cheeky:

my decision is based purely on my only talent. its the only thing im ever decent at so its what im locked in to. but i dont hate it!! i love being creative and i do explore more ways than just my main goals to express it. but i will always feel unaccomplished until i feel like im where my original goals lie.
my only regrets are my own shortcomings and difficulties that hinder my own abilities. the number one set back is myself and im fully aware of it. every day is a struggle that i feel like i cant overcome, there's just so much going on in my brain that feels like a permanent roadblock and i always end up stopping before i actually get over it. it feels like a total reset. so im not really happy, not at my choice of what i do but how ive ended up where i am (lacking). i feel 10 years behind on where i should be. but whatever ill get there one day

Thanks :saranghae:And yes, thankfully I've found three. Well I re-found reading. And two new passions are writing and drawing. I'm positive they'll all just stay hobbies.

Well for me it was pretty simple. I've always loved things relating to animals growing up, I saved a couple of birds that had hurt themselves on our back window a couple of times growing up. Helped get some cats and stray dogs returned to their family or taken into a shelter and that continued over the years. I would watch shows on Animal Planet all the time, and I just knew I always wanted to help animals on some way shape or form.

Whether it be environmental or biology. I ultimately decided after looking more into environmental that it wasn't the right fit because it was too depressing for me. I got a job working at a boarding facility, started learning medications and their uses through that and learned management from that place as well. it also gave me more of a hands-on experience with how disgusting animals can be.

I also grew up with 3 pets eventually. Went to school after earning an Associates of Art and working at the boarding facility at the time and realized I a hundred percent wanted to work with animals for sure. Did a more basic Animal Based degree, became a manager at the boarding place and then from there began to look into the vet med route.

Now I'm working on my 3rd degree, it's another associates to tack onto my Prior Bachelor & Associates and it'll be in veterinary technology. Right now I'ma vet assistant and I love it so much despite the long hours, little pay, and low appreciation from those you help. But I love when things work out and despite how devestating euthanasia's are I enjoy the process of taking care of the pet's after they have passed on before cremation services pick them up. I also love hearing the families stories about their beloved pet during the process as well.

It's a morbid and unforgiving job that really tests you no matter how well prepared you are for it. But I love it and I'm excited to learn more and grow. I also hope to possibly specialize down the line but that is still a ways away.

I'm 27 and still don't know what to do with my life. Ever since I was a teenager I had always wanted to work in television production, but with how bad my anxiety is I always felt like I wouldn't be able to do it so I thought there was no point in pursuing it. Instead I decided to major in Psychology so that I could possibly work as social worker for kids in troubled homes. That dream was short-lived and around the time I was about to finish my degree my passion was completely lost. Now I don't know what to do and don't want to go back to school since I was already there for so long and I can't afford it.

I do regret majoring in psychology and wish I would've found something better. I'm not happy with everything in life right now, but I don't hate it right now either

How did you decide what to do with your life?

What (if any) was the catalyst for making such a decision?

Do you have regrets about it now?

Are you happy?
I decided I wanted to be happy, and healthy. No toxic relationships, no more tolerating red flags trying to see the best in others

I got cheated on and lost multiple people (4 of them, 3 friends, and my grandmother) to suicide in a 7 month period back in 2022. I was headed down the road towards being another name on the list who lost themselves to depression after being hurt by others and mass bullied for walking away. I am still here now though, obviously lol, or I would not be responding.

I wish I had not wasted so much time and love on people who hurt me, however I also pity them and would never want to be so hateful. I wish I had prioritized only keeping healthy relationships and friendships, instead of just trying to not have people walk out of my life. I wish the man who SA me as a teen actually got some punishment instead of just continuing to be a miserable drug addict, and that some of my friends were still here but I cannot control that. I regret that I gave up all my hobbies and music for years for people who wanted me to fit their molds, instead of telling them where to stick it, and keeping on doing things I liked. It is weird how people who are cruel and have no hobbies mock those who are happy, have hobbies and mind their own business.

Yep! Very happy. I still have lots of trauma disorders and stuff but I take meds for them :PandaUnicorn: and try to make the best out of my days. I try to make people laugh and smile at least once a day and to mentally take note of things I have now that make me happy, whenever trauma and depression start to creep in.

I was really unsure what to do with my life right right before I entered university

I love to work with children and I actually don't regret my major, just the circumstances and conditions working in a nursery school
I realized that I prefer to work with older children so, I will probably switch to another work place sooner or later

Would I major in education again? Probably not, maybe in something related to history, literature or linguistics

After university I realized that I'm not interested in romantic relationships and I also don't want kids
So I can spend my money on the things I love and travel as much as I want without worrying about another human lol

In general I'm happy with my life
