Since a few years I'm suffering from Emetophobia (the fear of throwing up) and it’s affecting many adpects of my life.

It all started around four years ago, when I was doing a work placement and worked with infants and catched a stomach bug from one of the babies.
The stomach bug wasn’t even that bad, I think I threw up twice and then it was okay. But it kinda traumatized me and from this moment my phobia grew.
Since then I get really anxious whenever someone tells me that they feel nauseous.
Not that great, especially since I work with children
:jisoosmh:
But I know the children need me when they feel sick, so I try my best to ignore my anxiety. Thanfully the children I work with are a bit older, so they voice when they are not feeling well. And I have a whole plan in my head, when a child might throw up
:coronawimwim:
It also affects my eating habbits. I haven’t eat at any fast food restaurants in ages and I check reviews from every restaurant I visit, bc I'm scared to get food poisining

It also triggers me to see people throwing up in movies

I'm already thinking about seeing a therapist for it, bc I don’t want it to control my life anymore
:pepecry2:
Maybe there is someone here who suffers from the same phobia or a similar one

A quote I've always loved.

“Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgement that something is more important than fear; The brave may not live forever but the cautious do not live at all.”
― Meg Cabot, The Princess Diaries

Overcoming fear takes time, effort, and patience with yourself. It doens't suddenly happen all at once. It's a bunch of small decisions that take place over time. The first and most important decision is deciding you don't want to be afraid any more. Everyone has fears, except me, so your not alone :pandalove:

It may not be the best idea to tell you that my problem is that I’m feeling nauseous all the times and I have other stomach problems, too.:idkwhattonamethis: They try to find the problem.

Hope your phobia will be better and the therapist can help. <3 Don’t be afraid to reach out for help! Wish you the best, cutie!:saranghae:

it's really hard to live with a phobia because it's like you're constantly anticipating your fear to suddenly appear and hurt you... the best advice i can give you is that avoiding your fear will make you more anxious than you already are. if you do feel anxious, try breathing exercises and tell yourself that there isn't an actual danger. that's the advices i got for mine, but not everyone uses the same method. still hope it helps you 💝

Do you constantly think it could happen or only when something triggers you?

Also how do you deal with it when it really happens?

Sorry I can't be of help :(
I think about it often, but not constantly
Mostly when I'm eating out or when I'm at work

So far, I haven’t thrown up again after the stomach bug a couple of years ago. I thankfully don’t have a sensitive stomach and I always dodged it when there was a stomach bug going around
My hope is that when it happens, that I get sick, that I realize that throwing up is not as bad as I imagined, bc you usually feel better after everything is out and that it’s necessary to get better

and thank you! <3

Strangely, it's not so bad for me when someone throws up and it’s not contagious (like bc they are pregnant or have strong migraine/pain)

Sorry to say that, but I wish I could throw up cuz constantly feeling nauseous - like you need to throw up but you can’t - makes me so worn and worried.
Look at us, we have the problems:kijoongstare:

Hopefully, things will be better for both of us.

I had kind of the opposite problem. I got kind of "used to throwing up" and not seeing it as a big deal because I used to involuntarily throw up 2 -4 days a week, every week, in the morning, when I put anything in my mouth, when I was 15 - 16, ig panic attacks due to extreme anxiety, mostly social, and just got used to it. It happening this frequently lasted almost a year

The way I got over it was pure stubbornness, I'll tell you later if you want to know, just dm me

But I think you should definitely see a therapist if it would help you

It's good that you don't want it to take control of your life, that's the first step

Throwing up will never really be normal or something seen as normal, and it's always good to be careful and safe but maybe you can get to the point where it isn't something that affects your life or something you are scared of, rather than completely being comfortable with the thought/idea:sanapray:

You can do it, fighting:pandafightL:

oh I see

then I guess its kinda fortunate and unfortunate at the same time that it did not happen again.. but its good that you are still keeping a positive mindset about it. It sounds very stressfull to try to keep the bad stuff in when you are really sick

whatever you do about it, I hope you can manage to overcome this situation:sanapray:
