Let’s talk wizards chess. (1 Viewer)

Would you want to play this game in real life?

This is a violent game of chess seen played in the Harry Potter series. The pieces destroy each other when they are been overtaken, rather than being gently placed to the side.
In the very first movie we see a more lifelike and even more violent version in the Underground Chambers. Minerva had a very large wizard’s chessboard placed to guard the philosopher’s stone and thus commenced the most iconic game of chess.



Harry, Ron, and Hermione have to win the game in order to get to the philosopher’s stone. Ron having the most knowledge on how to win, guides the group playing as the knight, placing Hermione as a rook, and Harry as one of the bishops. Each move destroys pillar sizes pieces, creating chaos on the board.

Because I am a chess noob expert playing against the computer on easy, I can certainly add my two cents. They did wonderfully
The scenes pass through with reactions from Hermione, exploding chess pieces, and bits of fire. The lighting really adds on to how dark and intimidating the chamber is.
Ultimately, Ron has to sacrifice himself to the queen to help them pass.
He's brave
The king and queen pieces towering over everyone create a terrifying visual and even more so when the queen slowly makes its way towards the camera and Ron.
Rupert, you did great

Would you ever want to play a life size version of wizards chess if on the other side of the door was something very important?
I'd only battle it out if my pup was behind the doors.

I wouldn't want to play in real life, I don't know how to play regular chess. Sorry, whoever I'd have to save.

Out of all of the movies, this is my favorite Ron scene. But I wonder why he didn't just jump off the piece before it attacked.

Seriously, I wonder too. <.< But I guess it would be the same as forfeiting the game before his knight get overtaken. Since Harry and Hermione couldn't move from their place.
But mainly, it just adds dramatic effect for the movie.

Harry did say to Hermione when she was about to run to Ron that they were still playing. I’m guessing if Ron jumped off that would count as a move as well, an invalid one, and that would ruin it for everyone.

I'm not great at chess for sure, but ppl underestimate my chess abilities

but it's true sometimes they can't predict my next move, bc I don't know what I'm doing either
