Line distribution will never be fair. Idols get the lines they get because they fit the note range. One member didn’t “steal” lines from another. Do you really expect a sub-vocalist to be treated like a main vocal? Line distribution is the way it is to make the best final product. A rapper is not going to get many lines in a vocal heavy song, or vice versa.

I think members getting lines that fit them is the definition fair

I think it is more nuanced though. Sometimes the problem is the positions themselves. Some positions just don't make sense for the idol's actual skills.

I do think some former idols have said they got fewer lines not because of those reasons, but because they said something the company didn’t like or something like that, and that the company held poor line distribution as a threat for them. But I don’t remember where I read it

yeah obviously i don't expect everyone to get the same amount of lines because that is impossible but then again if someone gets like 5 seconds while another member has over a minute this is what i find laughable. why are you making someone go through training and put them in the group if you only make them sing one line

if a rapper who is not a lead vocal or main vocal gets the most lines, and it's mostly vocal lines, in a vocal heavy song it's not fair

Some people who barely got any lines couldn't sing or rap even passably well at debut tho tbh so them getting less lines (Sehun) I don't think was ever unfair

It’s why I prefer smaller groups as even the member with the least lines still gets a decent chunk. When I used to listen to more Twice, I used to get frustrated with how few lines Sana got.

It is a shame that we don't get to hear much from the members who are pushed to the back. They debuted for a reason, they have the talent, so why does the company fail to showcase that skill? It sucks.

I also want to add that when I consider that many times the producers, directors have multiple members sing the same parts and (sometimes) pick the "best" version of those samples? Sometimes you'll see certain people getting more lines. It's just the way it is. The group as a whole is the product, yes, and you want them all to be showcased in a substantial way, but at the end of the day the producers are gonna consider what's best for the song being produced, for the most part.

I say for the most part because I'm trying to understand making people sing constantly out of their range or rap when they're not good at it for the sake of "tradition" or "being unique," as that goes against "doing what's best for the song" IMO.
