For me, I disagree. You're only marrying one person, not a whole family. My gramma hated my dad with a passion and iirc almost disowned my mom for marrying him, but that still didn't stop her.

Sorry, but your marrying the entire family. There will be events where you get together. Your SO has a family just as you do. Once you get married they don't disappear nor is it fair to as your SO to disown them unless it's absurdly toxic or abusive. Maybe be they don't need to "love you" but you should atleast be able to tolerate each other.

Just immigrate to a country an ocean away. That’s what my parents did In my whole time since being born my moms parents and my dads mom have been in the same room once afaik, my moms family and my dads dad zero. They hate each other. But when we live in the US, my moms family lives in Russia, and my dads family lives in Germany, there’s so many excuses to not all gather together. We barely see relatives we like in person, let alone relatives there’s beef with.

and now my dads parents won’t travel internationally because of age and health and my moms parents would generally have a lot of difficulty traveling to Western Europe or the US because Putin, so there’s even more reasons to not all be in the same place together And since we have a dog now, my mom has an A+ excuse not to see my dads parents irl and my dad has an A+ excuse not to see my moms parents irl. It’s working quite well

I disagree. In a perfect world it would be nice if everyone got along but that isn’t realistic. Sometime people have family members that are questionable at best so I wouldn’t blame them if there was beef

My parents were great with both.
heck i went on as more vacations with our family and one or more of my moms sibs families than just with us.
there was even a running joke ta\hat the acid test for prospective spouses was a week vacation we went on most years.

but it does not always work out that well.
if they are not crazy and live close its nice if the kids can hang with both set of gp ect.
