Earlier this week, Melon’s parent company Kakao Entertainment officially announced that it had signed a contract with Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music), the company that provides the data for the United States’ Billboard charts.

As of June 7, streaming and download data from Melon now counts towards Billboard’s two global charts—the Global 200 and the Global Excl. U.S. chart—as well as Billboard’s local South Korea Songs chart.

Melon’s strategy director Park Doo Wan commented, “We are delighted to be able to spotlight K-pop and its artists to the whole world through our data. We plan to continue working together with a wide variety of partners both within Korea and abroad in order to heighten the value of music in the future as well.”

Might as well Melon has to do something to get back market share.
I think Gaon hiding Download numbers ended up hurting peoples interests longterm as it was simple easy to understand and compare song by song which fans tried replacing with PAKs but when that is more heavily reliant on timing it's not the same kind of comparison and interest over the years in charts has dipped.

Yep the aggregate digital number and the points system is too black box.
If number are to mean something they gotta be transparent.

its also silly they still only do albums to 100.

They also got a problem with download numbers from what Gaon showed of the winning song of the year numbers as 2.5M downloads seems like it'll be hard for new songs to hit and 10M was next to impossible to hit already
