That says more about other people than him, tho, let's be honest.

If it were another "more acceptable" relationship (no age gap, no power imbalance, two popular idols), except one was freer (because that's what it is. He was free(r) to talk about it) to talk about the relationship and did so...because it's their relationship, nothing to be ashamed of and something he's probably happy with, then...he can? People dragging HER because he's mentioning/references his relationship with her? Yeah, that's not on him unless he started getting real personal in sharing what they do when they're together, which, to my knowledge, he didn't.

Now, as for conjectures on his personality or character, I have nothing to say on that because I don't know dude (re: "Japanese fetish" as I see on this thread or whatever else fans have come up with). But toxic people being toxic (fans and non-fans) ain't on him, it's on them.

People are responsible for what they comment but if you see something you're doing is consistently bringing down the image of someone else, especially someone who's job relies heavily on her image, and continue to do it, responsibility does fall on you as well. If Heechul was bearing most of the hate comments and still continuing to make jokes, it's a different story.

I just don't see how throwing your girlfriend out to get hate is all that progressive or changing things. This was a couple that did generally have support publicly and fandomwise in Korea too until Heechul blew it.

I think there are couples that are changing boundaries in the idol industry whether it be respecting their privacy (Jennie/GD, Chaeyoung & her boyfriend, somewhat Daniel Jihyo) and ones that normalized public relationship (Sulli/Choiza, Hyuna/Dawn, Taeyang and Hyori). This...was something else all together. If both sides had kept it private or even were open about, I don't think this backlash and rejoice would have been as severe.

Either way, it's over now and I hope Momo is happy and the negativity towards her ends here. Twice has one more year left and it'd be nice it's a lot less dramatic than 2020 was
