I kind of can't help but feel a little bad for all the other artists dropping music around this same time, who didn't think A2O debuts were going to be a big deal, and then the monster that is NEON came along.

thats the nature of monsters. i mean noone thought a net flix soundtrack aka Kpop demon hunters would rule a year. or that Some would own a year.

TBH, also just the power of legit good songs. Like Golden and Neon are both good songs, even without a performance or an already famous member or whatever to carry it.

And sometimes its really hard to tell . for example when i first saw Gangnam style on dancing program Hyoyeon was on. i was like oh its just Psy being Psy, i was in no way expecting the wolrd to connect with it like that. lol to me it was that gens macarena, veteran acts that went nuke.

YES. Gangnam Style was wild. My friend texted me "I heard Kpop on the radio" and I immediately sent back "no you didn't." And then I heard an announcer introduce the song by mispronouncing Gangnam.

But you were right! Nothing about the MV or song felt out of character for Psy. Like Right Now is pretty darn similar (and tbh, I like it a bit more) and came out just two years before, but didn't even hit #1 in Korea lol.
