it seems they intend to do that and start the contract termination process once those 2 weeks are up and they probably already know HYBE will never give in to their demands

TBH, this is what I think too. It seems unlikely they'll just let the members walk away. Keeping them until the end of their contract, but without being able to promote, will make it clear to every future idol of their company that they gave them their career and they'll take it away.

I'm sure Hybe would love to do that but it's not that easy for them since investors will be wondering why Hybe isn't using a successful group and NewJeans track record will work against Hybe. If NewJeans refuses to perform then Hybe would have to go through court again which I'm not sure they'd bother with but I can see Hybe trying to sneakily underpromote them to tank their results and then have an actual reason to bench them which fans have to worry more about.
