Some things are similar and drawing similar conclusions make sense. Saying that a fat camp is like gay conversion therapy for overweight people. Being overweight is not a fundamental part of one's sense of self and is something that is malleable unlike one's sexuality, which copious studies have shown does not change. And I do say this as someone who is both gay and who has struggled with weight issues for decades. I just find it annoying and insulting when people draw such false equivalencies.

Anyway, your thoughts?

As someone who is also gay and struggles with weight, I’ll say my opinion. No, they’re not the same. Being gay is not a choice, struggling with weight is (to an extent). Yes, fat camps are cruel. But they’re not trying to change what you feel on the inside, their identity. With exercise and maintenance of a healthy diet, weight can be managed to an extent. And that also fails to take into account other health issues that may affect weight (PCOS, diabetes, and so on). A person can’t just come back and say hey I’m not gay anymore. Conversion therapy also is used on individuals who are struggling with their gender identity. They are literally living in a body that is not theirs that they can’t change. Both are disgusting, yes, but I wouldn’t say they’re the same. Both should be banned globally imo.
