In one interview, you said you should become a hard-working person. How can you become an even harder working person from here?

I was a lazy and introverted person, but one day I realized that I shouldn’t live like this. I thought that I shouldn’t just stay in the dorms doing nothing, because I was someone who was supposed to achieve and express things. I felt like I was going to never stop sinking. That’s how I started to work out, and I also promised myself to become a person who’s more suitable for her job, someone that listens and speaks well. I want to become someone who returns the fans’ love and help from other people well. I have to give the people who work hard for me a clear result, because that’s the right thing to do.

A school librarian wrote an interesting article on the influence of Kpop idols: Why Idols have to Read Feminist Books. Here's an excerpt:

It all happened about a month after the new school year began. Something subtly changed in this small library: students started to borrow ‘Kim Ji-Young, Born 1982′ more often.

The cause behind this phenomenon was clear: Red Velvet’s Irene mentioned that she read it during one of the fan meetings. I won’t elaborate on what happened afterwards because that speaks for itself. All I will say is that I got to experience the power she had on students up close due to my profession. After the fan meeting, the students started to borrow the book frantically, from the ones on display to even the duplicates of extra copies. Students started to come and ask about ‘Kim Ji-Young, Born 1982’ first. Of course, the book itself was popular among the teachers before this all happened, but I’m positive that the young students started to gain an interest in the book because of Irene.

It didn’t stop there. More students wanted to read feminist books. Female students started to ask me for recommendations. There were times when I was so excited and happy that I teared up a bit while writing the recommended books list...
