the thing is, there are so many cases of cops singling out people for bogus claims. there's this one of a guy who was picking up trash outside his dorm with one of those pointy picks and cops came to him and pulled a gun on him. they claimed he had a weapon. he was CLEARLY picking trash. would this happen to someone who wasn't black? honestly i don't know but i'm leaning towards it wouldn't because it seems like something that constantly happens to one race. that's why so many black people don't comply with cops.

from this guys perspective he didn't see any signs out there, so should he believe them? i don't know. i feel like arresting someone for eating a sandwich is so ludicrous. even if he's breaking a rule, just take a photo and say he's going to be banned or something. they could've handled it several ways.

i just think amber wasn't really looking at it from the guys perspective. he's not being disobedient just for kicks.
He didn't see the sign true or not.
Does . Not. Matter.
It never would have escalated if the dude had taken the ticket.
Take the ticket talk to the judge.

He was moving up the scale because he refused lawful requests from the officer.

Sure it is a pain in the ass to have to stop eating.
Or his day may have been annoying and this was a great cherry on top, but there is no winning in fighting with the police.

What gets me in these things is the dude is clearly in the wrong on every step and folks just want the authorities to let it go.

basically she was on a podcast?? where they watched that guy get arrested for eating a sandwich on a train platform. and she said "he deserved it" but in a really terrible way. i wish the idiots didn't privatize the video bc the full context would've helped.

as much as i agree that cancel culture sucks, she said something terrible. she said something lacking empathy. she didn't even bother to think about how the guy was feeling being harassed for eating a sandwich. i'm not cancelling her. im just holding her accountable.
But he was breaking the law since it's illegal to eat there

here is the video and i agree with wat u said

the 1st cop did it professionally , he didnt use violence and he tried to keep in control
BUT what i got mad was when after the arrest him they were like oh, there was a report that a man that looked like u was causing trouble
NOW THAT IS WHAT MAKES ME ANGRY AND IS WRONG.

going back to the amber thing
it depends on WHEN she said it
if she said her comment of
"he deserves it " before/during the arrest then she can say that, and makes sense she says it
BUT if she said it after the cops revealed the reason of arresting him then this whole scandal/issue makes sense and is very stupid of her
i didn't see your edit. anyway even with the bullshit the cops came out with at the end, the beginning part is still egregious. they're right to point out that there were several people doing the same thing but he was singled out. from what it looked like they only watched the part up on the platform.

this is her commenting on it

and im torn
cause coming from an asian background and i was raised to be respectfull, i agree with amber,
but then the dude was like culturally we dont know how blacks feel about police
and i agree with that too,
but then this can be counter claimed too. yall cant say anthing about amber being rude cause yall dont come from an asian background where respect to people older/position is everything.
i definitely understand why she said you should respect cops bc that's how she was raised. that's how i was raised too. it's just hard to say that when its a black guy getting arrested bc of the situation the country is in. and it's really tone deaf.

in the full video she made it seem like she didn't realize the guy was black. so maybe there's more to it. she hasn't said so we don't really know. but either way she could've articulated her point better. she shouldn't have said "he deserved it" like that.

also in the full video she ends the part by talking about a time she was told to take off her hat at a club. she took it off and put it back on when the bouncer left. the bouncer had to come back and ask her 3 times. and the last time he came he just snatched it off her head. and she laughed and said even after that she put it back on. so it's like, how can you say he deserved it for breaking the rules when you also do it...would i be ok if amber was arrested for wearing a hat? absolutely not lol.

More context for anyone curious:

I don't think her comment was racist or intended to be, but it was a stupid thing to say, especially for someone born and brought up in LA.
For growing up in the LA area shocked it wasn't accidently the N word. I live in the LA area how many times I hear people dropping that word even to non black people is still mind boggling to me. You know how Australians use the C word ending in NT in a friendly way. I know some people from the LA area would disgree with me, but you've probably never been to the ghetto areas.

And also coming from LA area I can understand why she would say that or even joke. Our people movers and stations can be made an absolute mess by people who can't walk a few feet to a trash can. They are also no eating areas, which I myself, have ignored.

this is the thing, the authorities DO let it go. they let it go for a lot of people. that's what the girlfriend was pointing out. that there were several people on the platform eating so why is it that he was singled out? i still think its egregious and that the police officers are in the wrong for handling it the way they did. like i said they could've handled it better by making it an issue with the transit authority and not thru cops.

kind of off topic but
one time i got in trouble in middle school, because i was talking to my korean friend in korean, and was speaking fast/busan dialect where its very rough speaking, and i said the n word in a sentence. but the n word in korean means you/you-do
my teacher heard me , got sent to the pr office and i almost got suspended for a few days
yo thats so fucked up. teachers are so annoying. i once got in trouble bc a teacher thought i said "paki" and im like dude i said faki, my friend's last name, can you fuck off.

The transit system has it's assigned police officers and they warn you first. You either comply or they push you harder. Refuse to show ID they push you harder. Just put away the sandwhich or keep your GF on the look out for the cop to come back

And THIS is how I almost got beat up in a Walmart parking lot. Listing to Ft Island when that word was sung next to a black dude. Love tolerance now day in age. And this is why BTS had to be censored when played on the radio. People can't take time to listen.

i think they were trying to make a point at the end of the day at how ludicrous this situation was. and i think they definitely felt targeted, and i wouldn't be surprised bc they probably hear on the news every day of a different situation happening to another black guy. it just sucks because cops should be trained to handle these situations better. and arresting someone for a sandwich? jeez. if you want strict enforcement make it strict for everyone, not just one person. and have signs on the platform. so many better ways to deal with this than to try to arrest a guy.

Uh it does seem like too big deal was made of what Amber said. In podcast u are supposed to talk about things and u don't always consider all viewpoints when talking, and that guy even pointed out another viewpoint.

Like I think arrest over eating sandwhich is too much and I wonder if the police don't have better to do. But if you are refusing to stop when police ask u and dont' provide id even, ofc police is going to do sth. I agree that the guy was unrespectful towards the police, not because he argued about the arrest in the film, but cause he didn't stop and didn't provide id when asked. Police's action was too much, but the guy was asking trouble as well.

So I don't think Amber was that wrong even, it's just one viewpoint in the situtation that didn't consider another viewpoint until the guy mentioned it.

Safest thing to do in this PC world if the story is about a black person and your not black just don't comment. Anything you comment can either be misunderstood, and/or twisted around. No one is going to take the time to be mature enough to ask questions in a matter that isn't an attack to get the commenters true opinion. (For example: Can you please clarify why you said what you did?) We want tolerance and and acceptance but this cancel culture is a cancer keeping people apart. We do not need to, should not ever, cancel soully on one opinion or past mistakes. This should be treated as a learning opportunity for all people.

Now if they continue to be racist go ahead.

Answer me this: If some in a group of people constantly verbally attacked you over any little thing even a misunderstanding, would you want to continue to deal with them? Or would you avoid/withdraw from them in the future? Now How about if there where nice people in that group but they said nothing to stop the attack they just stood silent watching. Do you think they would be inadvertently be effected by your response the verbally aggressive people?

This is things people don't think about

The issue is that people demand perfection and being perfectly woke at all the time. You can't discuss things, you can't have another viewpoint or opinion, you can't say anything dumb, you can't learn from anything. And it isn't even enough that you are perfectly woke right now, if you weren't that in the past your tweets and comments will be digged up and people will cancel u over them no matter how much u have learned and changed since u made those comments and tweets.

The society, groups nor people won't evolve without any discussion and dialogue, without different opinions and viewpoints, but that is not allowed anymore, either u are perfect or u have to shut up.

i think most ppl are bothered by how amber said it. she didn't consider why the guy might be resisting arrest. she didn't care about his perspective at all. she just said "he deserved it" without asking questions herself. she only started asking after the guy pointed out that it's a touchy subject because of the discrimination black people face. i don't think amber should be vilified but she did say something thoughtlessly and i hope she sees that.

But isn't that normal interaction and discussion. Someone brings up something u didn't consider and u realize how it's good point and that might change your initial opinion? :dubuthink:

i'd agree if she acknowledged what he said further and actually talked about it substantively. the conversation was just really badly done and i was shocked they uploaded it. they kind of just moved past it really fast and then amber went on to a story of her refusing to take off her hat at a club, even after the bouncer snatched it off her head, she put it back on. it's just so tone deaf.

I didn't see where the conversation went on from that. I get that her opinion was one-sided about it, and didn't consider issues that black people face with police in US. I don't think it was entirely wrong, since the guy didn't comply with the police, but it just was one sided. I'm not sure how the hat thing was worded, but it seems like she did similar thing as the guy who got arrested?

What i still don't understand is the huge outrage over it and how people think they are entitled to feel hurt and demand apology. People just like to write with their fingers and demand stuff that they deserve from others. You can tell Amber that her opinion was one-sided and talk about your own viewpoint on it, but u don't deserve shit just cause someone said sth u don't agree with.

yea honestly. it grossed me out that so many people mocked her apology before she even made it. it wasn't a good apology, but still.

also so many people said "poc solidarity is dead" as if poc solidarity is a thing when the tables are turned. i can't with twitter. ppl are just hypocrites. i still think amber did something wrong but i'm not going to bombard her mentions with attacks. its sad that people can't just handle this maturely. so many ppl looking for internet woke points too ugh.

You don't understand but you said it ENTITLED.

And people who feel ENTITLEMENT to ignore police because they feel wronged is just going to make things worse. I understand and do agree police have and issue going on with them. And yeah profiling happens, because morons out to cause trouble will follow a stereotype. Doesn't matter what race you are, it's always the stupid people. But ignoring and saying F the police isn't going to fix it. Sorry, but it isn't. It's just going to cause more stress on police and cause more issues to arise. And also handing your ID over, and keeping your hands where the police can see them, and you know no sudden movements is common sense NOT making you a victim.

If you act like you have manners chances are the cops are going to relax around you and let you move along. I've seen it before. Getto black guys in LA acting all thug when cops ask what's going on they suddenly snapped to manners and the cops moved along pretty quickly.

Where is everyone going to stand when the police have no power? Who is goidg to be there when you need help you say F the police?
