I don't know if these are american, but what i find annoying when writing in English and online:

- 12 hour system instead of 24 hour system. 3PM and 3AM makes less sense to me than 15.00 and 03.00.
- Putting months before days in dates. 1.31.2020 makes less sense than 31.1.2020 to me.

January first make more sense than the first of January and its shorter to say.

Halves, in English you would say half past five meaning 5:30, but in Finnish you would always say half six when you are meaning 5.30. This is sth i get confused about even now, if someone says half five to me it's 4:30 xd

In terms of digits discourse.. we usually use digits only when having decimals not with big numbers. I wouldn't really know how to read that number. I'd start thinking it's 1,20 but then getting confused with other decimals. Even the distribution to numbers is weird to me ^^; It would be just 1 200 547 190 here.

To me it makes more sense to write down 16 than 4PM, but it makes sense to say it' four instead it's sixteen. Same with the dates makes more sense to write it down day first since it's smallest amount of time. If you start with month there is no order. I think languages were spoken first and writing should convey the spoken word as delivered if at all possible.
But at the end of the day its what a person was taught that is ingrained in the system that most stick with.
I struggle to even read ddMMyy with out really thinking about it. Although in my job i have to format dates in so many ways that i can do it easier when in 'work mode'. I am fond of ccyyMMddhhmmssffff ect timestamps as a unique identifier.

I'm too used to the normal Sl units so I always get confused once in a while. On the side note I'll never get used to MM/DD/YY rather than DD/MM/YY , this made me pause for a good minute whenever I have to write the date.

Well 24 hour clock is pretty common where I am. We say either it's 15 or it's 3 when we mean 3PM, but we don't have thing like PM or AM. At most we would say that something is streaming at 3 in the night. But if you look when shops are open they aren't open until 9PM, they are until 21.00

Lol we didn't have that problem with halves here
The keyword is "past" so half past five is after 5 aka 5:30 while half five might be 4:30 lol. Although I've never heard someone use half five, that would make me think it's 2.5

Oh but I think it will actually be harder to say big numbers without commas. Like 546000000 by itself makes me pause and take time to see how much it actually is. But 546,000,000 makes it simpler to say it's 546 million just by looking at it.
