Why do we do this to ourselves?

Kpop makes us do weird things. I’ve never stanned a temporary group (let alone ult) but even when I listen to a song by one it makes me both happy and sad.

Honestly tho every group is temporary in a sense bcs theres never a guarantee who will resign and who wont. All groups will disband/become inactive one day

I don’t watch the survival shows at all so I avoid the emotional attachment, but when I started stanning Jeong Sewoon I sorta knew he was on a season of Produce 101. I then found out he finished twelfth on Wanna One’s season, so it reaffirmed my decision to not watch them

Kpop does that to us too. We always say this is the last time I’ll do this, or I’m not stanning another group, but then we always get dragged back into it somehow.

i'd rather eat dirty grass than watch a survival show but with them at least you know they'll be temporary... imagine stanning some nugu group with a promising debut but small company and then after one or two songs they just disappear until there is some notes app statement "the group is gone i guess"

Why do we do this to ourselves?

It's not your fault, it's the show's creators.
For example, there was a show, Produce 101, that created I.O.I. which had a short contract of one year.
The girls were aware of the short contract, but I cannot imagine some of the devastation they might have felt when the group disbanded-- unless they didn't.

So, to me, it seems like survival show groups' creators were intentionally telling the small fan bases ~ "We're going to give you just a small taste of what could have been a label's group. Then, pull the rug from under you by ending their short contract. We knew you were watching and following and grew love them, but screw you, fans!"

Honestly, same - I totally feel you! When I first stanned Iz*One, I didn't even know temp groups existed. I found out the hard way when I saw a thread (not on here) talking about their inevitable disbandment. I was like, "Whoa, wait a minute - I just became a stan and they're already DISBANDING?" and another user was like, "Yeah, they're a Produce group - Produce groups are temporary."

And then when I decided to stan Kep1er, I was watching a video of theirs, and some of the comments were like, "I'll miss them when they disband" and whatnot. I asked one of them if they were temps, and they said yes.

Why do I do this to myself??? I just jump right in without seeing if they're temp or not, only to have my heart broken when I find out they are.

I think the only silver lining with stanning a show group is that they usually get decent success from it so you'll get a good amount of content compared to a small group who might struggle to put content out

Well IZ*ONE made into my ult set, and i do not regret a minute of it.

Kep1er are great kids as annoyed with the show as i was i am very close to staning myself.
