This is Pledis Entertainment.

We are informing you of additionally confirmed information regarding what was posted online regarding SEVENTEEN member Mingyu.

We met up several times with the person who wrote regarding an incident that occurred when they attended the same hagwon as our artist and verified the facts. As a result of this process, we resolved misunderstandings regarding this matter and mutually agreed to conclude this situation.

The writer of the post experienced various personal matters unrelated to our artist while attending middle school, and they said they wrote the post to make known what happened in middle school. They said they wrote about what happened at the hagwon during that process.

Regarding this, our artist answered that he did fool around with male students who were in his class at hagwon, but he did not intentionally cause misery or humiliation to a specific individual. However, if the writer happened to feel discomfort or had a hard time due to his past actions, he expressed an apology regarding this.

The writer accepted this, and since the beginning of our discussions, they said that they do not wish for this matter to cause his departure from the group or for him to halt activities.

We shared the above statement with the writer first so they can check its contents, and the writer agreed with the statement after checking it. Therefore, we hope that no further arguments regarding this matter will arise and potentially cause harm to the writer.

We have finished contacting and discussing with everyone from the post whose identities could be confirmed. We are additionally working on verifying facts regarding the remaining matters with those whose identities are not clearly confirmed. We will share a separate statement in the future regarding additionally verified matters.

That said, screw society's obsession with ruining the lives of celebrities over incidents from their childhood. Yes, bullying is bad, however, how is coming for someone years later not bullying as well? The obvious intent is an eye for an eye. People are trying to take advantage of the cultural pressure put on celebrities to be perfect, while not examining themselves as perpetuating the same behaviour. Those in glass houses should not cast stones. The onus is on parents and other adults to monitor children better and provide a support system as well as education on why this kind of behaviour is unacceptable. That said, bullying is a natural behaviour, if it wasn't, it'd be seen only in humans.

There is absolutely no use to coming out all these years later, saying so-and-so did this. I'd understand if it was something tangible, but we as humanity in general need to stop acting all sanctimonious when this goes on in almost every school, around the world, daily. I'm more concerned with the fact that there is no oversight in schools when these incidents actually happen, or ways for the victims of bullies to get help immediately, versus trying to take someone down via post long after the fact. Delayed punishment for things like this does not work.

What good, exactly, comes from this? It doesn't raise awareness, it doesn't get justice for the victims, it just shows that society lacks the appropriate safety nets and mental health care to allow these people to actually move on with their lives instead of dwelling on something from years ago. It allows people to exact revenge versus seek resolution. You almost never hear of these alleged victims contacting companies directly, or trying to seek out an apology from the artist themselves, they just go straight to the internet to start the cycle of bullying all over again. Where does it end?

...That was far more of a rant than I intended it to be.
