I'm not sure I agree.. I mean there could be a y to x correlation instead of an x to y. Perhaps people are not poor to begin with, but having children places a burden on them that causes them to become poor... Plus people at a lower economic background tend to be more religious. This may influence their decision whether or not to get an abortion.

I didn't say my assertion was the only reason. Or even accurate. As I have not examined the data. Its just an alternate explanation for why poor people may have kids. But here's probably a more plausible reason: Most, if not all, societies place a great importance on having children. It is not unreasonable to assume that poor people would also place such an importance on having kids as well.

i'm so tired of the way people constantly judge and look down on poor people and expect them to wail in their own misery but don't propose any actual solutions

• poor people generally don't have access to high quality education, which means no proper sex ed and they probably never realized how expensive children are
• poor people can't afford contraception, and expecting them to stay celibate for their entire lives is not reasonable
• poor people, especially in less developed countries, have children help w family income by setting them to work at an early age and collecting financial benefits
• poor people tend to be more religious, and when you're deeply religious you have certain ideas regarding sex and reproduction
• in certain countries, having large families is the norm and they're expected to have many offsprings, pair that with lack of sex ed and it's all they know
• in less developed countries having children means someone who will take care of you and provide for you when you're old or sick
• high infant mortality rates means families have more children to account for the ones they (will) inevitably lose

the problem goes much deeper than "misery loves company"
