to add on cause i love yapping - despite it being fucking mnet, i will always and forever be grateful to street woman fighter (and yeah technically street man fighter too but i refuse to rewatch or rec the show now, knowing that the leader of the winning crew groomed one of his students) for introducing me to the vibrant world that is the south korean dance scene - both battle and choreo. sure i'm not an ardent follower or anything, but i do keep an eye on what's going on. and there's so much!! it's genuinely so much fun, even for a non-dancer like me. and the talent pool? crazy stacked
fellow yapping enthusiast on ks :pepeclap: finding a new interest is always fun, except obviously the leader being a piece of shit but at this point in the entertainment industry men being trash will surprise me less than them not being trash.

honestly??? following the dance scene has helped me detach from the idea of putting my faves on pedestals kinda?? cause like while going on tv shows like swf have made these ppl semi-famous (some like gabee have become well-known in the variety scene), at the end of the day they're still dancers. their main source of income is the choreos they make or the dance battles they judge/win - not the parasocial bond that idols cultivate with their fans.

like i'm whipped for trix (apart from being a great dancer i also find him very funny, and also hot ngl) but it's not like i'll subscribe to a paid messaging service of his where he goes "hewwo i hope y'all have eaten today taehyunie oppa loves you" like wtf no

also it's so cool finding out who was behind your favourite works in kpop?? like i always loved the dance break in everglow's la di da, especially because of the incorporation of voguing. and turns out... it was choreographed by one of korea's most prominent waacking and voguing dancers, haejun, who also happens to be openly non-binary!! like yes support queer creators!! also like imagine, the guy who choreographed jeon somi's fast forward (babyzoo) is not only one of the most prominent choreographers today, but also keeps his toes in the waacking scene, battling as often as he can. like look at this. it's such a shame he was up against jemin right from the round of 16 onwards, jemin is an absolute beast in the waacking scene (and even won the waacking category of 2024's lineup)

lmaooo the movie has bad cgi?? thank god i never gave a shit about it lmao

if you want more primekingz greatness you should check their mega crew out, it's inspired by haka. normally i am a bit iffy about these sorts of things (people not of a certain culture using it in their art - especially if it's an indigenous culture) but knucks had done his research about haka as an art form over years, and created the performance with a great deal of effort and care. the og version from 2022 includes people who are ordinary office-goers and students - if i'm not mistaken, apart from the 5 primekingz members all the other dancers had other jobs than being pro dancers. and then the 2023 version includes female dancers from the crew afrokorea.

and ofc there's countless battle clips you can look up of the members.

i'm genuinely sorry for rambling sm but idk i've never talked in such detail about primekingz or any of my dance faves before, the dam's kinda broken now lmao
bad cgi, bad plot and tbh everything outside of the acting was bad lmao. but that's me being petty because they gave my favourite character a meaningless death (shooting through the heart with an arrow in a blink and you'll miss it way.... this is eclipsoulphobic) despite her being the only one returning from the original movie. from what i see, all the hype for the movie is thanks to the male leads being hot or some shit but as a lesbian i cannot relate :nomina: if you want to know how exactly bad that cgi was, they had shark fights inside the coloseum so yeah. the old man behind this should just retire because it's one thing to create a shit movie and another to create a shit movie that tarnished the masterpiece which made the shit movie's existence even possible in the first place. so just like you had your ramblings about your dancing faves, here are mine about a movie i anticipated being a disappointment :we_kpopsourcing:

i'll check them out!! i have a lot of free time on my hands these days and honestly watching people dance is so fun. i mean my only experience with doing so is kpop and local version of dancing with the stars but it really is fun :kirbypop:

oh my god i hate when this happens

LMAOOO i'm bi but even hot actors can't make me like bad movies. i'm absolute trash for deepika padukone (how she is or isn't as a person idc but she's very attractive imo) but some of her more recent movies have been so bad omg

also final comment about my interest in dance - watching professional dance battles genuinely helped me appreciate just how... questionable raygun was at the olympics

YOU GET IT... like even when i was more into kpop than i'm now as in just casually streaming the songs, i was always weirded out by this shit. my country also has a weird parasocial celeb culture (tho it's mostly focused on internet celebs whose main audience is children and teens) which gets to the point where people defend a dude arrested for fraud but the personal connections certain stans develop with singing people on your screen always surprised me because what even is the point in paying for a stranger's messages? when you go to a meet&greet at a concert i guess i could understand because you are at least seeing the artist and some people can feel satisfied letting them know what their art means to them, but all those corny text messages as if they're your friends? i will never get its purpose. obviously i do like some public figures like i joke around about local gameshow hosts as if they were my friends but things such as that paid service are one of the reasons kpop fans can never be normal around those people like when they got mad because joy from rv prioritised her actual bf over some people in her phone. anyway, whenever people mention those things i always think about this one tweet lmao

OMG YOU GET IT TOO... like i get having parasocial bonds with public figures! i get having celebrity crushes on them! trix is definitely amongst my many celebrity crushes. i'm still into kpop heavily enough to become whipped for idols that way - like i recently developed one for evnne's jihoo (what doesn't help is that we're the same age rip). but to genuinely believe your bias loves you... from the corny ass "the sun is shining so brightly today, but not brighter than unnie's love for her fans!" messages that you paid for??? yeah nah

like if we were to talk about my numerous celeb crushes... i admire the work they do, i may think they're funny, and they're cute enough to make me giggle and kick my feet whenever i see them. like trix? phenomenal dancer, hilarious on his yt channel, extremely good-looking. jihoo? great at dancing and rapping for idol standards esp considering he's just 18, ballsy enough to call mnet out while on their show, and looks adorable, especially with his braces. but lmao neither trix nor jihoo are going to help me write my long overdue economics research project. so to invest that amt of energy into them... i could never

la di da is an example of absolutely godlike kpop omg i owe those people so much... i built my entire pandemic-era personality on that song :fangirling:

ngl calling out mnet would work on me before any of those corny "[insert idol] loves you stay warm and healthy" statements :we_kpopsourcing: i agree with you, like the reactions you mentioned are like half the fun of enjoying pop culture but to believe that someone whose job is literally to make people like them values every single one of their fans as if they know each other personally takes a new level of being naive. like i don't know, maybe i'm built different but i would be embarassed to tell anyone in my life that i pay for text messages from a pop star who wouldn't recognise me on the street because most people around me would laugh and i cannot even blame them :fangirling:

but nothing against hxg esp the members on the show! they have had to deal with so much vitriol for... being good dancers and having a shady leader (who didn't even participate on the show cause according to mnet dance has gender??)

but yeah oops have had to deal w sm shit too, esp the leader round. do linh is so so strong, i would have loved to see her hard work and grit get its returns but oh well
