I wonder why they stopped doing these? In this day and age where every merch has a photocard in it, you would think that they'd be banking on these as a good source of money. The rare cards on the latter editions were just different finishes for the cards but there was a time when you can get signed and piece cards.

For the long time fans here, did you collect these? And for those who didn't know these existed, would you be interested in collecting these?

they stopped bc albums are more profitable. i think it's jyp that requires all photocards of the members to be able to purchase tickets to a fanmeeting. and that's hard considering you have to buy a lot of albums to do that, and then you might have to swap/purchase photocards separately. anyway fans who spend money in this way like that they're also contributing to album sales.

Well true I think the last few groups to release star cards were GOT7 and Infinite. And I didn't know that photocard condition for a fanmeeting, I thought it was always a lottery situation. The last time I heard about that scheme was for Japanese releases where the cards have stubs at the bottom.

I can imagine this working so well for boy groups especially BTS and EXO. Some random piece of cloth from a towel used in a concert and autographed cards will probably send the fans in a card hunting frenzy.

i think most ppl have lotteries but even then they encourage you to buy a lot of albums since one album = one entry. im not sure if the jyp photocard thing is true anymore. i remember reading something about it but can't find anything.

ok i found it. it was a twice fanmeeting in japan. so maybe it's not the same for korean ones. but it was a hi-touch event where you got to touch whoever's card you got so it was encouraged to get all of them...and then if you had 2 of the same member you got to touch them more... :welp:

That sounds so wrong lmao but it's basically the same scheme with AKB except you buy slots for the handshake event (one slot = one CD with handshake ticket that only lasts 3 seconds lmao)
