Russian cursive... my mind just melted...
It's confusing af, my Russian reading is poor already and she's throwing in t's that look like m's (even though normal T in Russian is T and normal M in Russian is M) and other stuff like that :wimwim:

After a tiny bit of research Russian cursive is just as illegible as English. There's also Chinese cursive!

Wait. They removed it from schools and returned it in some areas? WTF????

The Board of Education in those areas really must have been bored that during that time, huh?

Useful how? Other than that tiny portion of people who are going to be reading those documents and oftentimes putting them into print form online for everyone's ease of access when relevant. There's virtually no need for anyone else to know cursive when whatever important documents will be in a form that doesn't involve cursive. After all, you don't know archaic English do you? But if you wanted to read an old document that was actually somehow relevant and wasn't destroyed ages ago you'd probably be able to do so in a translated form. I doubt that you've read many anyways because there's no real point but there's no difference to that and cursive. Old forms of writing/speaking that involve skills almost no one needs and are therefore (for archaic English) are not taught to everyone at random. Cursive is basically that, just new enough that some people try to hold onto it because traditions sake.

Well thats great your cursive is faster than print. I don't see how that makes cursive better as a whole, just better for you. It isn't necessary in any way imo aside from certain historians needing it, and why teach a form of writing because a couple will like it and find it faster and another couple people will possibly use it for historical reasons, while the remaining 100 will never use it other than for school and will forget it a few years later? That seems like a waste of time overall.
I don't understand why you're bringing archiac english into this. Archiac english is literally english words and grammar that have gone out of style. Curisve is a form of hand writing that is still used to day. They're linked but not mutually inclusive. And you're talking about arachiac english it's like some really intelligible form of english that's from the ancient times. If people can still understand shakespeare to this day, then normal people can understand some form of archiac english. I don't see how cursive is different to that. And isn't it enriching to read something old, in cursive, and understand it? I understand that some people may not enjoy old documents and texts and for them its unuseful but I personally believe that understanding these texts is still important.

Cursive is good for developing a child's brain. It fines their motor skills and helps with comprehesion. Sure children may forget cursive when they grow up but the benefits will always be there. I think taking a few classes wouldn't hurt anyone

Is that a joke? :soob:
Nope! If you look at this it becomes clearer how it happens. The first letter is the sideways E, then reverse N, then H, then sideways E again, the backwards N, then the 3 sided room without a floor and little thing to the side, then that again, then the a. They just end up looking the all the same :lisalaugh:

As one of the great thinkers of our time said: Gen Z does not use pens :sanapray:

I think handwriting is useless in general, we can just type! its a million times faster regardless if its cursive or print
until the power goes out. :pepesmug: Or the printer runs out of ink... or a professor required a handwritten essay to be done in class. Or your at a job site with no lap top or electricity and need to take notes. Or your boss says write this down!

could also say in the other direction until paper runs out or your pen is empty.. there always reason why something could not be used

and ofc you would not be required in school or anywhere else to write something on paper anymore in that scenario

Because you were citing historical documents as a need to know English so I was pointing out that historical documents almost never have or will need knowledge of cursive, just like archaic English. If your argument is that you'll run into and need cursive in your daily life I see no situations where that'll happen past someone giving you a gift and writing it in cursive which is specific and unlikely. Also when I mean archaic English I don't mean figuring out thou means you, I mean the kind that in indecipherable to most people but available translated. For example Beowulf. Not Shakespeare. If cursive is similar to that then no one would be able to read it. And I can't say that I would feel any better about learning old English and being able to read the original copy of Beowulf rather than needing a translated version with the same information without going through the effort of learning Old English. I don't see cursive as different. The content is what matters to me, not whether I saw the old old version or copy of the old version with the same exact information. I think most people won't care about or need to see full texts of historical documents ever, let alone original copies of any historical document ever. But if they need to, they can probably find and understand these documents just find without squinting at faded old papers trying to decipher the letters. Cursive is rarely going to be useful for any understanding of historical documents for the layperson, if ever.

Many things are good for the brain, can help with motor skills, comprehension, you name it. Some will probably even end up having better effects that sitting at a desk writing. You definitely can't think that writing cursive is a make or break for any of those areas. Why not do something more productive that can help with similar or different areas? A few cursive classes won't hurt (aside from kids getting annoyed and unhappy, which is often what I feel happens in the end) but in the long run they realistically will help in almost no way too. Why teach something that is basically useless to almost everyone when you can wait and teach is just as well to anyone who does need it later on specifically?

Let's agree to diagree then. I don't think I'm gonna change your point of view and you're not changing mine
