Should Gugudan and Weki Meki be afraid to do more cute concepts? (2 Viewers)

I mean... they somewhat have a fandom, but shouldn't be more natural for them to try something more cutesy, instead of keep "flopping" with girl crush?

I think there's some room for it.

And it worked for Cosmic Girls and even DIA got a music show win (not that Woo Woo was fully cute but still, and it was The Show lol).

Well music show wins are mostly down to timing, like Loona could get their first win at any comeback but if they keep running into groups bigger than them then they're gonna keep getting blocked.

Whether girl crush is a good way forward likely not since it seems to be limited who people like it from like outside of the Big 3 and Cube I can't recall a girl group building on girl crush.

Gugudan and Weki Meki have to look at pleasing their Korean audience first. That's where the money is.
Gugudan had an awesome debut song and a lot of Koreans loved. Bet then they had a girl crush concept as their cb, that's where they lost the fans.
You see, a 1st cb is very important because that's when fans know if they like your sound or not, thus creating a loyal fanbase.
By changing their sound, people weren't interested and turned their backs to them.
Then they tried again with a cute concept and they got a bit of attention but the damage was done. They then had another girl crush concept.
You need consistency, especially when you try to make it big against big3 companies.
Gugudan seems to want to please both Korean and international fans but this is not the way:
better to choose one concept and have a loyal fanbase instead of fans who will listen to your cb once in a while.

For Weki Meki. I kinda like their songs solely because they're catchy. The IOI members only get pushed and the rest of the members: not memorable, sorry. They don't stand out. They desperately seem to want to cling to their girl crush or teen crush or whatever it is categorized under, but the gp doesn't like it. They have to change their concepts a bit and experiment rather than clinging on the concept, trying to make it work.
I didn't even know they had a comeback after their Lucky album.

Tbh I'm sad that Gugudan didn't keep their debut song concept. It was something new, never done before, and they could've grown this concept. It's kind of princess-y and I've seen a lot of people now wanting a group with such a concept to see what it would bring. Sad, cuz they could've been the leader in the concept and maybe started a whole new hype/concept-genre.

This is true. It's a huge game of luck.
But, generally, LOONA gets seen as "those girls from the rich company".
Their fanbase internationally is MASSIVE, but in Korea, they don't have that much of a hype behind them, sadly.

Yea, I loved Mr. Potter and I liked Cathy/Huihyeon from P101.
I wanted to Stan only to find out they didn't continue the Mr. Potter route and going back to overly cute songs.
So having Woo Woo made me like them again.

It's possible but at the same time some groups last very surprising amounts of time who pull less like Stellar lasting nearly 7 years so who knows what it takes.

Hype doesn't count for much, CLC had both at various points and look how long it took them meanwhile you have Momoland who were nugus and not only did they win on just 1 hour of charting on Melon and not even 10k album sales but they won on a public music show which is unbelivably dumb luck.

Gugudan played too much. I do not under stand why agencies keep messing with concepts.
Twice and BP are ballpark the same concept every single time

Weki Meki sold 50k albums with the girl crush debut concept. It is not abt the concept. They did well because of the pd 101 hype back then. The hype is now gone and its kinda late for blowing up either concept they go with.

to both points. Early Physical sales is more of a lagging indicator. How the previous song did or previous hype drive it much more than the songs in most cases.
Pristin also did 40k + but dropped to 27k after wee woo and pristin V did 20k.


gugudan debut @ 20k did 29 for act 2 then dropped back to 20k , 20k act 5 crashed and burned at 9k. So every girl crush change has hurt them. Not good and yet Jellyfish is still promoting them.
