so i'm in an ap geography class aaaanddddd i just found out today that when we take the exam, we're going to be in a dead silent room with no music, not even lofi and we can't have our own music because they said it'll distract us, but tbh they really need to split up the students into two rooms: one that's dead silent and one that has lofi or allows you to listen to your own music.

my reasoning for this: i can't focus in dead silence...i can't even sleep in dead silence...i need at least something to listen to......i can't focus with the sound of people breathing and the sound of pencils writing or papers moving.....i need something stimulating and i know i said i can't sleep like that, but in situations like that....i will fall asleep because i know i can't get any work done like that....but i know i'll get in trouble if i sleep....

Do you mean the AP exam itself, or a class exam? The AP exam was very strict about being anti cheating when I took it so I would be shocked if music or white noise was allowed (after all what if someone finds a song that has lyrics like "Argentina is in southern South America"? I wouldn't be surprised if there's something like that. And for white noise I bet its that they don't want to "give anyone an advantage" and therefore make the environment super controlled. I dont agree with it but thats probably the reasoning

we're allowed to listen to our own music during class exams/tests and our teacher will also play lofi, but sadly he has no control over the ap exam ;-;

from what little I know of the US system (and similar in Australia) if you have a learning difficulty or disability that affects your education or ability to take tests or whatever you can seek greater concessions from the school by what they call a IEP

From that, yes i do believe i have one. I have autism and i think we've had meetings with the school counselors about and IEP

that's great since your IEP should show what accommodations you have and if it includes things like individual music and such

but sadly my mom doesn't think i can focus with music, but in all reality, i can, better than in silence. so it hasn't been added T^T

then you need to speak to your doctor and mother and school and get that added since otherwise it's just going to be like that in the future when you take tests and whatnot since they will look at your IEP and see no musical accommodation and won't allow you it

Okay so i talked to my last night and she sadi i didn't have an IEP but i had a 504 plan and she said she'd talk to my school counselor abt it 🤗

I have no idea what the different is but yeah you should speak to someone about it to get the accomodation that you require
