It seems the party, SVP, is a far-right organisation, and they banned new constructions of minarets in 2009 AND are planning to cap immigration.
There weren't any other options, SVP are just racist and Islamophobic

After reading comments on this thread, I find the difference in opinion among people quite interesting. My own reaction to this was "as they should".
I used to live in Iran where there has been a forced law on putting something on your head. Most girls just leave majority of their hair out of the scarf or wear a hat instead. They dont dress the same way as the woman in the photo. I mostly used hats but as soon as I left Iran I have always been styling my hair and letting it feel the wind.

When France passed a similar law, any Iranian person I encountered was actually like "you go France". I guess "actual muslims" are much more against this dresscode in comparison to what democrat Americans think. Although they mostly ended up dropping out of Islam after they realized what it is truly like after being exposed to it a lifetime.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand. Iran doesn’t require burquas and therefore they should be banned in Switzerland? I’m really not seeing the connection, and what Iran has to do with people in Switzerland.
