The estonian song celebration is a huge event in Estonia... We have it every 5 years and this year it was it's 150th anniversary.
Choirs from all over Estonia, Estonian choirs from outside of Estonia and even a select few non-Estonian Choirs come to sing together in one huge choir. Just imagine it, singing together with over 32 000 people. Singing about your love for your country, about how beautiful it is and about being together.
60 000 people there to see it. The number would be larger, but they stopped selling tickets due to safety concerns! Hundreds of thousands of people watching it live online or on TV.
The energy you get is honestly electrifying! After the "official" songs had ended, the crowd kept on singing songs they liked. The orchestra started playing without a conductor and the choir followed with the songs!
There is nothing more beautiful in my opinion. The celebrations symbolises the life and the strenght of the Estonian people. We have had this celebration through our time under the Russian empire and the soviet union. The celebration is where a third of the country came together in 1988 to show the soviet union we want to be free.
The videos of the songs today haven't been uploaded online yet, so I will post some videos from the last one in 2014.
