It’s mainly about the toxic culture. A lot of young Koreans are generally friendly and open-minded. If you watch the video it goes over why Korean society is on the struggle bus and behind the scenes of why the culture is the way that it is today.

I think it must be true on some level. But even non confuscionist societies have this problem of failing or getting left behind from ur peers. In America they expect kids at 18 to move out and have a job even tho they cant drink legally til 21.
Here in the balkans they expect u to have one or two children and a house at least until 30, if not it will be "too late" for u already.
It really shows how we put so much effort on our careers, especially in this modern world where both men and women can work. I dont think its wrong if someone focuses on their career, but i feel like it leads to some unhealthy competition and self-doubt when we realize not everyone can be on top or the same successful.
"If they did it , i should be able too!" Which is ridiculous because not everyone will be a doctor, lawyer or professor. Normal jobs can be and should be fulfilling too, if we start to appreciate it, if we dont look down on it. And maybe one day the end goal wont be to be on top, but to be happy with what i do.
(Lots of rambling about only one aspect , sorry. But i see it as a bigger problem, not just in Korea.)

I understand what you're saying, but Korea has a high suicidal rate for this exact reason. Even if you have a successful career, you're attractive, you have money and a family, you're still picked apart and judged because you failed to do what everyone else has expected from you. You're a slave to your job until you die. They can't suffer from mental illness because it's considered to be a stigma. They're too afraid to see help or guidance because they'll be condemned by their peers and family. It's sad. But yes, I do agree with you. Every country and every culture has its flaws to some degree. Times are changing and society is expanding. It's harder for the older generation to come into terms with this newer generation. They don't want change, so they expect the newer generations to follow suit. Now that technology has boomed, it's messed up the cultural system of things. Younger generation is more open-minded and carefree. They don't want to shoulder the burden of the older generation. Okay well now I'm just rambling.
