do you think you could do it? basically, you'd have to abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset for a month (unless you're sick, on your period or pregnant of course but let's say hypothetically you're none of those things)

i'm curious because most non-muslims are always shocked that we cant even drink a little bit during the day

Personally I don’t think so.
However it would be a nice experience to know how it feels.

i love food so much i can't even imagine myself not eating for a month but honestly, if i was a muslim, no matter how big of a foodie i am, i would probably fast too. i have so much respect for all the muslims out there though, kudos to yall for being so committed to your religion <3

i have muslim friends who fast too but i never knew yall could eat when youre not feeling well :nakypog:

No. If I recall correctly, when I was in my teens, out of curiosity, I've randomly attempted to do so but only lasted a day.

And it was not because I knew someone who fasted for Ramadan.

tbf im not going to lie to you and say fasting is "fun" but that feeling of yea i did it and that first bite after a long day is super satisfying yea

they actually say your reward is greater if you refrain from fasting when you're sick than if you push through and harm yourself. you're even exempted when you're travelling. basically it's about resisting temptations and being mindful of what you say and do, never about pushing yourself beyond what you're capable of :maheart:
and i feel you on the foodie part lmao but at least we always make sure to prepare extra yummy food during ramadan that we dont eat often so that kind of makes up for it

Eating? That's fine. Drinking? Way harder, especially since I'm supposed to drink more water because one of my medications is a salt. But the not taking medications is where I would flat out say no. I don't feel comfortable changing my medication regiment, and I can't just skip the medication at the time and take it later because one of them is one of the ones I take it 3 times a day and while taking a double dose in the morning wont kill me it's really not ideal either. I'd also struggle more during the day because of the time they both take to wear off and for me to need another one, if I take one in the morning it wears off by early afternoon which is why I take it at that time again. So yeah basically no for me unless medication randomly stopped counting as breaking the fast.

Do you mean not eating for a month or not eating from dawn to sunset for a month? Because those are very different and I'm not sure which you were saying :haylul:

No. I might be able to do the no food thing, but the no beverages would be impossible. I'm always drinking something. I have a coffee and water by me right now lol.

i meant not eating from dawn to sunset my bad LOL but tbh not eating or drinking from dawn to sunset is hard as well, i had friends who had to wake up earlier than usual even though they barely slept. i wouldn't mind waking up slightly earlier to eat, even if it meant losing sleep though :wimwim:

oh no i don't think so? no beverages would certainly be very tough, even if i can somehow abstain from eating. i'd certainly wait for my period that month ahah. to make matters worse, i'm a swimmer, so goodness forbid i accidentally swallow a little bit of the pool water haha (ends up happening more often than you think). though i suppose doing it right from your teen years would help you get used to it. i was talking to family friends of ours once, the husband's muslim but his wife was born hindu. i don't know whether she converted or not, but she fasts with him every ramzan. i asked her how it was, and she said "you get used to it 👍👍👍" and she definitely started in adulthood, so years of doing it, regardless of when she started, got her accustomed to keeping the fast.

there's other religious fasts i'm familiar with (but have never kept), which too seem scary. many married north indian hindu women celebrate karva chauth, which involves keeping a fast (abstaining from food and water) for the good health of their husbands - until they spot the moon that night i think. we're bengali so we don't celebrate it, but i know many who do, and it's really tough. one time my school music teacher gave me a free lesson because she felt too weak to teach. but then again that's one day a year versus one month a year, so it's all different...

Maybe, but I'm on a weight gain diet bc underweight, so I wouldn't be able to do it for very long.
