Thoughts on whether completely redebuting idols count as rookies? (1 Viewer)

Something that I saw come up recently was one of those Kpop statistics accounts make a strong stance against Viviz counting as rookies. Now they are in a rather rare situation where no new additions was made which only Highlight and JYJ have really reformed like that with those being just continuing the best they could what they did before while Viviz opinion is that they are a new group.

Thoughts? ​

I think it's fine. It really doesn't hurt anyone. If their claim is that the idols already have an established fanbase then you can use that exact same logic for IOI/W1/IZ*/X1 and the post groups from them.

Minx redebuted as Dreamcatcher but they added members as well

You can redebut and not be labeled a rookie. Viviz is just considered fourth gen. The group name may be new, but they are 3 well established idols.

One of the things Viviz mentioned though is that they didn't know how to perform with just the 3 of them when they first got into the practice room and just had to try and go with it which brought them into the more bubbly and energetic concept they have now.

So do they have that experience as Viviz or just as Gfriend?

There are for sure new experiences.
What I’m getting at is I wouldn’t call them rookies like I wouldn’t call mamadol or refund sisters rookies. Even tho those are fun experiments and probably one time things.

Same as I don’t see Sakura, wonyoung or both Yujins as rookies.

honestly. its pretty fair in a sense because its a whole new group dynamic or if a completely new group with one member redebuting, thats even more appropriate. but i think they should still, whatever the case be, acknowledge their already built popularity

Viviz and even Yuju do that since they get introduced as rookies with 8 years of experience which is well... a title

If they have status /seniority of gfriend then they are not rookies.

The industry has always treated soloist/ new groups as separate things.
post produce groups always have additional members so this is not a direct comparison.

TTS did not get any nominations for roty nor did highlight from a quick search.

Tbf TTS is just a sub-unit isn't it? I think the only weird award thing I found regarding this is SuperM won some random newcomer award but not like award shows are exactly a beacon of sense nowadays.

yep tts was treated as GG with nominations in existing groups stuff.

Super M is a an odd unit semi perma mix of 3-4 groups.

Now soloist from groups do get new artist stuff Chungha the iz one members have some .
But Say Taeyeon did not so there is a difference.

Interesting and yeah SuperM is only really comparable to Project Groups but they're an actual group is the twist.

Weird that Taeyeon didn't get any because Soloist debuts you do kind of have to separate in most cases as they'd get steamrolled by groups especially since it's usually only their debut going up against a group debut and a comeback and for example Chunghas highest album is only 30k.

I think they can be considered rookies as the group name is different and they basically have to start over from square one more or less
