The government would have to actually do their jobs and agree to pass a law, which you think would be easy given switching times is pretty universally despised, but everything is political theater these days.

The law could easily be written so it takes effect in the future so that companies have time to adjust coding, etc. to avoid negative impacts, so the government is the only real hold-up.

The government would have to actually do their jobs and agree to pass a law, which you think would be easy given switching times is pretty universally despised, but everything is political theater these days.

The law could easily be written so it takes effect in the future so that companies have time to adjust coding, etc. to avoid negative impacts, so the government is the only real hold-up.

To be fair, there would need to be a lot of coordination involved, which is a hold up in some places. Some provinces in Canada will stop the time change if the US states that border them also stop, but otherwise won’t because it would be too confusing to have a mismatch, because of the large amount of trade and collaboration between the two. One of those state that say they’ll stop the time change too, but only if the neighboring states do too. And among those states, some states that say they’ll also stop the time change, but only if all the neighboring states agree. And so on.

Also, each state would need to pick if they want standard time or dst year round because that differs by state. Like in my state, if we had dst year round when I was in high school, the sun wouldn’t start rising in winter until I had already finished my first period. And it would mean my walk to the school bus would be very bitterly cold more, because it would stay dark for longer (could I have put on warmer clothes? Yes, but shhh). But for other states in my timezone, they'd want the opposite because for the dst time would actually fit better than standard time for them.

Not saying that the government couldn’t solve these issues if they wanted to, nor am I saying the time change isn’t silly. But there is more to it than a lot of people assume, since for the average person it’s just a mild nuisance and the time zones don’t affect their daily life that much. But in such an interconnected world, making the choice to stop the time switch is actually a pretty big deal and it needs a quite a bit of work and collaboration to not cause any problems anywhere

Right? At this point, I'm just like pick one and stick with it. So many studies have been done that show we literally are doing the worst possible option with the twice yearly change.
