top10 movies i watched in 2025 (1 Viewer)

first proper thread in months

did this last year, and actually watched more movies this year, so here we go again if anyone cares

these are not necessarily movies released this year, but i did watch them for the first time

10. The Substance (2024)

Demi Moore should have gotten that Academy Award i dont even care.

9. Casablanca (1942)

Catching up on classic cinema in the big year of 2025.

8. Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025)

Movie so good i didnt realize Kate Winslet was starring in it until i checked the imdb page.

7. Wicked: For Good (2025)

Step down from the fist one, but still incredibly good. Give Cynthia that Oscar.

6. Saltburn (2023)

Yeah, I get why Murder on the Dancefloor went viral, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor deserved that career renaissance. Also, Rosamund Pike. That's it.

5. K-Pop Demon Hunters (2025)

DONT COME AT ME. Imma need my boy Ahn Hyoseop to comeback for the sequel, i dont care how he does it.

4. A House of Dynamite (2025)

Political movies based in reality are the real horrors these days.

3. Erin Brockovich (2000)

Catching up on classic cinema part 2, the story was so interesting it made me read up on the real case. Also, I love biopics.

2. Frankenstein (2025)

Guillermo del Toro was cooking some amazing things in that kitchen.

1. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025)

Couldn't pick any other movie, this series was a part of my life since 2010 (!) and it was an emotional goodbye. Went to the cinema twice and cried both times.

i see the substance and i already recognise a tasteful individual

but whenever i remember that anora won all these oscars it just pisses me off like i cannot believe they tried to convince us that some creep who follows an account called idf babes is some auteur filmmaker destined to be the voice telling sex workers' stories on screen. don't even get me started on all that thirsting over the ruzzians in the cast

also all this thinking about various songs experiencing a resurgence in popularity after appearing in media had me realise that if i were working in hollywood and had secured budgets i'd just make up some bullshit plots to fit my fave forgotten songs in it and watch their popularity go up

not saying that saltburn was an example but yeah the thing that i associate the most with that movie was unfortunately that cursed bathtub scene.

as for the rest, i need to catch up with 2025 movies because these past few years i just consume media from decades ago and haven't watched anything that was recently talked about like frankenstein, bugonia or one battle after another - on the bright side, at least i have something to spend my time on before the st finale (derogatory) is released

There are so many old hollywood films that deal with war/post-war narratives they're so interesting to look into. I watched miracle on 34th street and there's a scene where an orphaned dutch girl is feeling sad cause yk, she's a dutch orphan because of ww2, and kris kringle cheers her up by speaking to her in dutch (this was in new york). Unnecessary ramble but I always think it's interesting to view these movies in that light.

i think the only movie i went out to this year was
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning which was a solid popcorn movie.

i did buy some blue ray and dvd's
best of those was top gun maverick which i had not seen except for all the you tube clips. ill put that number 1

KDH which i went over to my youngest sisters to watch with a niece ill put at 2.

Passengers was a nice movie if you totally ignore all teh insane plot armor /holes. (like they were coming back from the place and someone or thing would have to put the crew back in hibernation....)

I went kinda tom cruise crazy bought a 10 disc set for like 15 bucks for Christmas but those and Edge of Tomorrow i had seen before.

mostly i just watch some of the 1-200 i have on hand . of if im hanging out with a sister her husband has like 5 k dude is crazy. (all dvd or vhs he hates blu ray..

for decades i went to almost every new movie(dollar tuesdays, and then dollar theaters made it easy) other than horror. but now i just cant get my self to care enough about what is offered.

as you can tell by what i bought none of that is even very reticent.

Mostly i feel the streaming services do not even try with any level of consistency. they are just filling space.
