So....I was just browsing Twitter & noticed a trend or two.

The first was Dreamcatcher is racist & culture appropriating Native Americans. A girl made a whole thread about why DC are racist.

The second was Dreamcatcher change your name.

I didn't look into the latter, but apparently someone started a petition for DC to change their name so they won't continue to get hate.

This is honstly why I hate Twitter so much, but what are ya'll's thoughts on it?

I can post a link to the thread about DC being racist if anyone would like to see it.

Oh, also to top it off, some anti's said that if anyone continues supporting DC, we're just as racist as them & Insomnia's have known DC are racist from debut but keep supporting them???? But this is the first I am hearing about it...sooo...what..

i honestly strongly disagree with them. twitter these days smh.
was the culture appropriation just a mistake? like lisa and her recent scandal(srry idk what it's called)?
I'm not sure. Apparently the girl who made the thread is a Native American of a tribe (I already forgot the name) who makes dreamcatchers for children, not to ward off nightmares, but to protect them. They believe in a grandmother spider who protects the children, hence the dreamcatchers.

Someone then pointed out that DC has the song "The Curse of the Spider" which got people saying "omg they know exactly what they're doing."

Twitter is always after some act for cultural appropriation like they went after Gfriend for the arm choreo even though anyone could see it was an apple tree.

I think we should just throw the whole site/app away at this point
It's good for keeping up with news but it's undoubtedly one of the most toxic places on the internet and even non kpop fans say that.

We've had to deal with this shit on every comeback. there's always people throwing out 'Dreamcatcher are racist and appropriating the Native American culture'.

This is an article I found where they say that as long as the Dreamcatcher's are authentic Dreamcatcher's made by the Native American people and not a cheap rip off, then it's not appropriating and in fact it's helping to keep the traditions alive and also help support Native Tribes.

Here is the link to the article: The Truth About Dreamcatchers

Dreamcatchers are thought to have originated with the Ojibway tribe of the plains, but many other tribes such as the Chippewa and Lakota have their own versions of the dreamcatcher legend. The first non-Native American documentation was by a scholar named Francis Densmore in 1929. Although there are many variations, a dreamcatcher is basically a small circle of wood that is tied with sinew or thread to resemble a web with a small hole in the middle. The strings or sinews are tied at several points on the circle, with the number of points on the dreamcatcher having different meanings:

* 13 points – the 13 phases of the moon
* 8 points – the number of legs on the spider woman of the dreamcatcher legend
* 7 points – the seven prophecies of the grandfathers
* 6 points – an eagle or courage
* 5 points – the star

A dreamcatcher can also have a feather tied to the bottom and beads or animal tokens hanging on the strands. Traditional dreamcatchers are only a few inches in diameter, but you will see contemporary models anywhere from a few inches to 1 foot across.

Legend says that if you hang a dreamcatcher above a bed, it will catch the bad dreams in the web while letting the good dreams through the hole in the middle. As the sun’s rays hit the dreamcatcher in the morning, all of the bad dreams will evaporate.

Dreamcatchers became popular during the pan-Indian movement of the 1960s and 1970s as a symbol of renewed Native American pride. They can now be found at almost every reservation in the United States and Canada. While you can find cheap imports at many souvenir stores throughout the West, it is a good idea to try to purchase the authentic article whenever possible. By buying dreamcatchers that have been made by native people, you can help keep the tradition alive and help support native tribes. Several websites specializing in authentic Native American items have been offering authentic dreamcatchers for sale. Try websites such as native-language.org/dreamcatchers for a list of craftspeople who make and sell authentic dreamcatchers and dreamcatcher.com for some beautiful examples for sale.

So, no matter what fools on twitter say, as long as Dreamcatcher are using authentic Dreamcatcher's and promoting them in a good light, then it's all good and that is what Dreamcatcher are doing.

If Dreamcatcher didn't have so much more people loving their content than people not liking it, then we could see a problem and they probably would have disbanded by now if that was the case anyway, but people love their concept (even Native American's) and usually if something is actually appropriating a culture, there would be viral cancellation on them.

So, I really don't think they are appropriating anyone's culture, but actually they are appreciating it and showing Dreamcatcher's and the Native American tribes in a good light.

I've learned so much more about the Native American tribes and Dreamcatcher's in general through the group Dreamcatcher.
