"Boys Over Flowers" and F4 was bigger than a lot of kpop groups.

This show was a lot of people introduction to Korean Entertainment and F4 was so popular they were practically touring like a kpop group across Asia with fan meets.

F4(more specifically the bg from taiwan formed from the 4 stars of Meteor Garden) were (in my recollection) more of a big thing for Taiwanaese tv drama/celebrity idol than for hallyu wave per se. And its based on Hana Yori dango, a japanese manga in the first place. It made stars of the 4 male leads (who formed F4) n Barbie Hsu (who has now married South Korean rapper DJ Koo) n Rainie Yang(supporting role but the actress eventually eclipsed Hsu in asian stardom). F4 were ubiquitous for most of 2000s, not sure exactly when they diminished-either when they became JVKV(too complicated n im lazy to explain), earlier or after(they were kinda 1D, Beatles of Asia/taiwan in a way).

Btw F4 n Boys Over Flowers were kinda almost 10 yrs apart(2001 for F4 vs 2009 for Boys over flowers). I think F4/Meteor Garden resurged(is tat even a word?) or led to live action adaptations of its source as Japan in 2005, SK in 2009, China in 2018 n thailand in 2021 produced own versions all stemming from F4/meteor garden's success/popularity(japan nvr made a live action adaptation UNTIL AFTER Meteor Garden's METEORIC (srry not srry for the pun/bad dad joke).

F4/JVKV kinda still famous now tho nowhere near level in 2001~2007. Boys over Flowers im not sure uf its impact outside kdrama/hallyu enthusiasts.(im just gonna click post without proofreading, srry for any errors/mistakes).

even though, i will agree its popularity was huge especially in asia. like in my country it got dubbed in hindi and was shown on tv so its pretty popular but apart from that, i think kpop is still far bigger.

and well, its not a fair comparision now is it. a show vs a musical genre with hundreds of artists contributing to its' success.
