Was SHINee really a "experimental" group? (1 Viewer)

SHINee and f(x) have always been touted as the brother/sister experimental groups from SM.

But for me personally I've never thought SHINee sound was experimental. And I think you can find proof in this when you compare the success of SHINee when viewed next to f(x). Both groups were very successful but SHINee was way more than their sisters. Sure some of that can be contributed to SHINee being a boy group but for the most part I think their songs were more general public friendly.

I could give a lot of examples but the one I always think about most is the well known "fact" that View was originally for f(x) and 4 Walls was for SHINee. I don't believe this one bit. People just make stuff up for fans to talk about all the time. View sounds NOTHING like an f(x) song. It's way too polished and GP friendly. 4 Walls I think is still too polished for my girls but it still works better for them than View does.

SHINee has never released anything as weird as RPPP or Red Light as a title track. I'm sure someone here will disagree and say they have. But I've never seen how their music is rapidly different from the music SuJu was putting out at the time. While you could clearly tell a difference between SNSD and f(x) music.

All the Shinee "experimental" songs are hidden as b-sides. Someone who listens to Shinee often besides the title tracks would understand this. You'll never get tired of Shinee's discography. Their albums are all pretty different. For example, I find 'Odd Eye' more experimental and new to my ears than 'View'. Shinee just isn't explicitly experimental like f(x).

I agree. They certainly didn’t have as many quirky A-sides as f(x). I would pick NCT as SM’a most experimental boy band. They have some pretty out there tracks.
