Now to explain the term, some people really want to visit Auschwitz, Aokigahara (the so called "suicide forest" in Japan), Chernobyl and other places devastated by tragedies. Places where souls might cry for help, where people died in thousands, they consider those wishes their "dream trips".

There are people who are very pragmatic about it, quickly to say "history is to be learnt, it is fascinating to look at those shoes and imagine a person who would days later die wore them, it´s fascination, nothing too deep." Mind you Aokigahara forest is a forest where no animals live because it is built on lava eruption and has many caves around. It is said to be absolutely quiet it is almost scary. Again, some people might find it morbid, others are just practical "it is a piece of nature".

I am not judging either groups. I do judge people taking selfies in Auschwitz but maybe I´m just not getting it. I am a bit reluctant about even thinking about going there. I am also always surprised by the fascination of Chernobyl because as I was born in Ukraine and close to that time, I feel like .... why would anyone want to see what a misery looks like?
But I must admit as for Aokigahara forest, I can definitely see it as a natural wonder. It looks absolutely wonderful. Especially as I believe it is everyone´s right to do with their life as they wish.

Were i in the area i would visit the camps just because we should never forget.
There are enough ppl who say it was a hoax as it is.

The one only place like those that I want to visit is Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park; built on the place where the bomb was dropped.

i don't see anything wrong with things like that (though it's not for me, i'm not into traveling in general) as long as the tourists keep things respectful. taking selfies in auschwitz is a huge no from me, but if someone wants to visit those kinds of places out of curiosity or to learn something then it's fine.

I guess it's bit similar as watching documentaries of such events. It can be interesting to see sth tragic that is piece of history. But it wouldn't be my first travel destination. If I was travelling close to site like that I would visit but it wouldn't be the purpose of trip.

I visited Auschwitz once, simply because we're required to do so in school (or at least it's recommended). It's a part of the history of my country, so I think it's important to remember and preserve that. I was devastated tho and I'll never comeback.

I studied tourism too and yeah, exactly. it is a topic that definitely doesn´t have a right or wrong answer, it´s more about personal perspective. yet, from the professional point of view, there needs to be a debate on how to preserve the dignity of such places. no matter the personal beliefs of souls, ghosts, religions and so on.

personally, i wouldn't visit unless absolutely nevessary. however, I don't usually see a problem with it unless the visitors are being disrespectful. there's a lot of layers to the morality of it however
