I personally think (IMO!!) that illit isn't copying newjeans
sure newjeans MIGHT have started the y2k concept but like for example blackpink and itzy are both girl crush but they aren't the same!
why can't illit have a y2k concept too? LIKE WHY DOES NEWJEANS HAVE TO BE THE ONLY KPOP GROUP WITH THE Y2K CONCEPT?? IS THAT WHAT MIN HEEJIN WANTS? 🤨 so like is itzy copying blackpink then? also I think illit's concept is more cute and has magic in the concept (newjeans is cute too but I mean illit has cute songs like lucky girl syndrome and newjeans doesn't have a song that has a vibe like that they're more chill! ^^)

imo there’s several aspects with similarities (including the work for pgngg which was y2k magical girl themed) and that a few choreographers have started posting public statements I don’t think is a good sign
that said, literally none of it is illit or lsfm’s fault, and it’s crazy to me that people don’t see them as victims too
whether or not they can or cannot sing is irrelevant to what the execs have been fighting about (and let’s not forget newjeans also caught flack for gods)
I think mhj is starting to reach now but the source of her concerns was valid with the accumulation of similarities
both parties are playing the pr misdirection game so I’d rather sit back, ignore the youtubers, and wait for the final court decision

NewJeans didn't invent Y2K, they popularized it in kpop, but it's a trend that has been happening in western music before NewJeans debuted.
Regardless, kpop fans are still going to say group X copied group Y, it happened when aespa debuted just because they had 4 members and a girl crush concept like BP, but their songs aren't even remotely similar.
I don't really follow it anymore but HYBE definitely got knocked down from their pedestal in the Korean public's eyes.
I've always said that HYBE was trying to make kpop a monopoly and it'll bite them in the ass someday.
They've taken too much hay on their forks.

I've said it once a thread before: forcing NewJeans into hiatus is a bad move.
1) They're from their subsidiary which means HYBE pumps money into them. They're boycotting their own group resulting into loss.
2) Let's face it, NewJeans has a chokehold on kpop currently. Putting them on hiatus will cause the public to forget about them and/or move on to different groups.

But it seems clear to me that mjh was in fact trying to break away Ador from Hybe.
The odds of her not getting fired are tiny. When your boss wants you gone its going to happen.

I could care less about either NJ or Illit.
Just the Idea that some goofball in k government want to make a copywrite for dance is nuts.
Quick grab up all the slide step / cheer/ jumping ect copy writes..

Also the shear lack of professionalism shown by all involved is shocking.

The idea that the HYBE mindset is zero sum for kpop is crazy, and Should in fact get everyone to turn on all the groups.
But no one will because MUST... PROTECT X GROUP... AT all COSTS..

• Min Hee-jin is brilliant but volatile, difficult to work with and unsuited to managerial positions. She has a great many opinions on how things should be done in the industry (and she might be right!), but unfortunately for her she is not the unanswerable CEO of her own company, but the CEO of a subsidiary of HYBE.
• She probably shouldn't have been given the CEO position in the first place.
• But she was given it, because of creative differences she had with Bang Si-Hyuk.
• It was not her role to go against Bang Si-Hyuk, she should have relented and accepted his ideas. But she didn't, and her vision turned out to be more successful than his. BSH has clearly taken this personally, and relations between the two have been frosty for a long time.
• I think everything MHJ says about the formation of Ador and the surprise of Le Sserafim is true.
• I think she signed an unfair contract with HYBE that ties her to that company for as long as she wants to work in the industry.
• MHJ has likely played hardball with HYBE every step of the way, leveraging the success of NewJeans to have her way. I can imagine her raising frequent disputes over frivolous matters.
• In light of this, I do think that Illit were created with the intention of weakening her bargaining power and diminishing NewJeans.
• Whether in response to that or separately, I think MHJ was exploring every option to break away. With NewJeans or without them. In Ador, or outside of it.
• I do think she met with investors. I do think she considered the idea of breaking NewJeans' contract and re-signing them elsewhere. I have no doubt she was seeking to have her own contract amended.
• Illit was the spark that lit the fire and caused MHJ's animosity towards HYBE to deepen.
• Illit's success is what emboldened HYBE to go scorched earth, with less concern for NewJeans as an asset.
• Either because they were afraid that MHJ would launch a PR war first, or just out of spite, HYBE launched a persistent campaign to smear MHJ in the press.
• This campaign has resulted in significant blowback, especially in South Korea. HYBE's image has taken a significant hit and their idols are shouldering the weight of that.
• The behaviour and public communications of both parties is shockingly unprofessional. HYBE's conduct is unethical, they are leaking things to the press that they are most likely not legally allowed to disclose.
• They could have paid MHJ a few million dollars to go away quietly. I think if the offer had come from BHS himself, with humility and respect, with the understanding that she could use that money to start her own company, we would never hear about any of this and everybody would have been better off. But all parties chose violence and now everyone's got a bloody nose.

The only other thing I want to say is that people are very reductive about NewJeans' concept. They are very unique and specific, and it's the details that have endeared them to people. And I say this as someone who is very much not a fan (although their new song is really good imo).

to be fair she did claim that she and bsh had not spoken in over a year, and no one's come out refuting that
it's just shocking how elementary school behaviour is standing in the way on a company with such good momentum
