What do you think about idols or trainees dropping out of school? (1 Viewer)

I came across this video the other day and was wondering what everyone else's thoughts were about idols dropping out of school. Some idols have dropped out of high school, and others have even dropped out during middle school. And I already knew about Rosé dropping out a young age, but wasn't aware of the others.




My thing is, if you want to take the risk and drop of out school for your own career then that's all on you. However, it doesn't always mean that they'll be successful or even debut (if they drop out while they're trainees of course). But there's also a chance that you will succeed. It's very risk in my opinion.
Then again, there's also idols who dropped out due to financial reasons like Kang Daniel and I think AOA's Chanmi?, and other personal reasons too.
I don't think dropping out of school means that you're dumb, lazy, or whatever. Everyone has their reasons for it. So let's not shame anyone here

I believe TRCNG members were forced to drop out due to TS being a terrible company and forcing them to train ridiculous hours and in their case I don't think it was worth it. They never reached a level of success where they could really support themselves with their career. So I think it depends a lot on your level of success and whether you're able to support yourself.

Edit: Looks like I was wrong and they ended up just moving schools not dropping out completely. I think my point still stand though.

I don't know I think being an idol is a career where you need basic history lessons and shit (simply because of the scandals that happen when idols are clueless about history) but besides that I think most education isn't really needed for the career field but I also don't have a good understanding of the Korean school system and how it works like at all. I don't know what they include in their curriculum and everything.

I don't think it was the company per say telling them to drop out but they set schedules that couldn't work with their school schedules, including their commute time. I can only find info on two members dropping out right now so I'm not sure it was something that just the two of them had to do or if more members needed to also.

It's very risky cause majority of idols and trainees aren't going to make it. Trainee or kpop idol that didn't get fame or fanbase of their own doesn't have lot of skills for other jobs. Some try to make it as BJ's, some youtubers so it's still in entertainment business but not lot are going to make it like that either. I have heard that there is some kpop companies that actually encourage finishing school and even higher education which i find admirable.

I mean, it´s a HUGE risk and they are very lucky that their parents supported their decision financially and in general. I remember reading that Lucas also dropped out of school at 16-17? And he had said that he didn´t like school and wasn´t the best student. I kind of get it, why suffering when you can be good at something else? I would have dropped out of school at 16 if my parents weren´t like "ok, but we are not gonna support you financially and you can pack your things and go", that motivation kept me going :D. I actually really admire the courage!

Easy enough to go back and get a GED if the want it but i would not recommend it for any but debuted idols.
Switching to private or home school seems a better choice even if debuted.

it all depends, sure your grades don't define you and all that but for one idol that debuted and succeeded after dropping out of school there are many that didn't and who knows what happened to them afterwards. it's a very risky move and it's important to mention that most of these idols were born into privilege where they wouldn't have to worry about what happens if their singing career doesn't work out and for most people that is not the case. if it worked out for these idols then i'm really happy for them but i hope that their younger fans do not use their stories as a motivation to do the same thing because most of the time it is simply better for you to stay in school.

It all depends. Most idols who drop out of school or slack off were already signed to the Big 3 before they made the decision so, they must have been pretty confident about their talent and/or were already told by the company that they'll succeed. The CEO probably told them to do it because they already know how the idol's career will turn out. Them having a lifetime of success and connections.

I think it's very rare for idols to drop out, though. Most of them just go to SOPA or another performing arts school because it allows them to take massive breaks and still graduate.

But, nugu trainees or aspiring trainees should stay in school. It sucks but if you're not apart of the Big 3/4, you'll have to be a pretty spectacular idol to be able to become a legend. It's obvious why aspiring trainees should continue studying.

This is also a good point. Most of idols come from very wealthy families so dropping out wouldn't really affect them compared to a trainee that has to work for their family and themselves. If being an idol doesn't work out, they can always live off their parents money and be a "socialite." Use their family's connections to get a job/degree.
