as long as it's done ethically i'm fine with it. like if the animals used for taxidermy have died of natural causes or it was done through legal and ethical means, like roadkill, natural deaths, or animals that were euthanized for medical reasons.

if it wasn't so expensive i would buy some because it's pretty cute

why would that be unethical?
I mean we humans kill animals for sport, food, protection of other animals

why is killing an animal purely for taxidermy unethical?
why would you kill an animal purely for the sake to display them as a decoration?
that's unethical to me

like others said, i don't mind it only in cases where the animal was already dead due to natural cases. but still it's not something i'd own because the sight of it creeps me out

with all due respect my friend you didn't answer my question

so it's ok to kill an animal purely for food
sorry not just to kill them but to raise them to be killed - that's ethical to you?

and some people hunt animals for fun - is that also ethical?

we're solely talking about taxidermy here, not diet, not hunting, not anything else
those would be whole other conversations. some people are vegetarian for religious reasons, some are for ethical reasons. i've read many of plutarch's works on this topic so i get it but i'm literally just talking about ethical taxidermy 😭

then the issue is not merely taxidermy per se though right?

the question is then: is the killing of animals unethical in any situation? because it would seem you are making the argument that taxidermy is somehow wrong or unethical per se

one must start with the most simple of questions - is the killing of animals unethical in and of itself - obviously if the answer is a straightforward no then question over - if the answer is yes then the question is why is merely the killing of animals wrong?
if the answer it depends then the question is:

why is the killing of animals wrong in one situation (ie. taxidermy more unethical) than the killing of animal for another reason

because one cannot separate the killing of animal for one reason vs the killing of an animal for another and someone state that they are different because whilst you might believe say killing of animals for food is ethical but someone then the killing of animals for any other reason - (let's lump hunting and taxidermy under the umbrella of enjoyment) is somehow then unethical.

i didn't say killing animals for taxidermy is more unethical. what i'm trying to say is it varies case by case, there is nuance.

the distinction here comes down to intent and necessity. killing animals for food can be thought of as fulfilling a basic survival need, while taxidermy, especially when not involving already deceased animals, is more about aesthetic or recreational desires.

but many people do differentiate based on the perceived necessity and the suffering involved. like in an ethical sense, the concept of "necessary harm" versus "unnecessary harm"

killing an animal for food might be seen as a necessary harm, whereas killing for sport or display (as in taxidermy) might be viewed as unnecessary.

you can lump hunting, diet, and taxidermy under the umbrella of "enjoyment" but not all forms of these are motivated by enjoyment as some are driven by needs.

it's also worth questioning whether all forms of enjoyment that cause harm are equally justifiable or ethical.

does that make sense?

without putting words in your mouth let me ask then that does your issue come about in the "killing animals part" of the equation as oppose to the taxidermy part

if so then the problem is the unethical or inhumane killing of animals then regardless of the intent or outcome then situation is unethical overall
but if the killing of the animals is humane and ethical then one might argue regardless of the outcome then the entire thing is ethical?

if that's not the case then lets consider the next argument

well one might argue that killing animals is unethical even for food purposes and thus killing animals is ethical regardless of the reason

that comes down to the issue of what constitutes necessary vs unnecessary harm and whether that philosophy extends to animals and that is a philosophical argument as oppose to a taxidermy one
