What do you think of Severus Snape? (1 Viewer)

Similar with Draco, many people have conflicting opinions on the Head of Slytherin House and Potions Master, Severus Snape. What’s your opinion on him?

I’m ngl, I really love his character (I’m speaking more of movie Snape btw), I definitely see him as an antihero though. Snape is a jerk and very much a bully to his students however in a way he’s quite likeable to me Especially when you see his motives. He is not the nicest of person no and before he returned his loyalty back to Dumbledore he did some bad things for sure, but I think in a way he tried his best to redeem himself by protecting Harry and the rest of Hogwarts.
Alan Rickman did a phenomenal job portraying Snape, nobody could have been a better fit for him.

I adore his character! Though, like you said, he is kind of a bully. I do wish Lily married Snape instead of James though :(

It’s really amazing when you rewatch the films and you know everything that Snape is behind. All the times Harry trash talks him I just wanna shake him and tell him “You wouldn’t be alive without him”.

I love him, and he is definitely an antihero. A very complex character, but that is what makes him so interesting and compelling. He's a complete asshole, but he has his reasons & I tend to love the bitchy characters anyway

He has much more likeable qualities than Draco lol

he definitely did some selfless things and had some pure feelings towards some people (lily) and was a bullied kid himself by Harry’s father, and Sirius. And he took a dangerous mission to be on the right side of the war.

but it is hard to have sympathy for someone in their 30s bullying pre-teens, I’m sorry

Yeah I think that he’s a pretty unlikeable character to me, he does everything he does basically because he’s in love with someone who’s already taken. I feel like that’s a pretty poor reason for realizing that being a death eater is bad you know? It should be obvious from the start.

Look, he's my favorite. He's relatable, he's mean, and he's funny. An ex-Death Eater that taught Potions and was convinced(?) to protect his bully's child at an immature age - uh, yeah, of course he acts like that. He needs help and I like how complicated he is.

The whole in love with Lily thing - his "Always" to me meant "I'm never going to forget the one person who was nice to me," even though they did grow apart. I've read The Prince's Tale multiple times and I don't see romance. At some point he had a crush on her before Hogwarts, at the very least he thought she was pretty, but it reads as schoolboy crush and/or platonic to me. And I don't dislike Lily for cutting off contact.
I'm not sure about this but I also hope he eventually found a better reason to take down Voldemort - years of grief ain't it.

Rickman was a pleasant Snape. I wished he was able to do more for the character - he needed more lines and I would have loved to see the outbursts in the movies.

He’s a complex character and I appreciate it. It makes him seem incredibly realistic.
