What do your family or friends think of your interest in kpop? (1 Viewer)

My mom found it a bit weird at first because it's music in another language but she really doesn't mind it at all. I'm not sure if my brothers know I like it, but they probably don't care either way

I do refuse to tell my other family members about it though because I know that they'll make fun of me for it. Some of them are assholes

they don't care much for it. actually i tried to get one of my friends into kpop once, didn't work because of a very pointless reason but it's not like she has anything against it. now that i think about it, my family has commented much more on the music i listen to outside of kpop than on kpop itself

My family think I'm weird, since I'm as old as I am and this is my passion. My mom's new husband is especially snooty about music and criticizes it, which drives me nuts. Thankfully many of my friends are into kpop or I met through kpop, so I've got my people.

my mom supports it though i know she thinks it's too much sometimes, but she has bought me exo and got7 merch and is pretty supportive overall

My mom also listen to k-pop and so does all my siblings.

A lot of my friends also do listen to kpop.
But my other friends that don't listen do know that I love kpop. They have nothing against kpop, but it not their thing. They probably have no idea who BTS is.

I don't really talk about it. Like.. Ever. The most was showing someone Hoya's Angel mv... But enough people have listened to Enrique Iglasias and Ricky Martin to understand that you can appreciate the music without understanding the meaning. Plus Mi Reflejo has tracks on it that are only on that album and only in spanish, so a hardcore Christina fan would understand and hardcore Christina fans would encompass 30-40 year olds, so... Liking an artist who does [at least sometimes] music outside of their native language is not uncommon.

But most of ambivilance I have encountered toward K-Pop has more to do with the image and the rabid fangirls associated with it rather than liking a genre outside of one's native language. The people I talk to who don't like K-Pop usually find the male idols as appearing girly and what not... Which isn't entirely inaccurate.. I mean G-Dragon does that sometimes.. and I think Siwon was in a drama where he did that. . . But mostly its not true ... Its just uber hilarious when people hate k-pop, but like Japanese OST for anime.. Like you have no idea how many girly songs are in those OST...

My mom has mixed feelings, she likes watching variety shows with me but prefers if I don’t play their music while she’s around... she doesn’t agree with the fact that they’re called ‘idols’ She gets me things like bt21 merch but refuses to get me albums because of it... I’ve tried to explain that most fans don’t worship them or anything but I don’t know how to help her understand that.

They don't live under a rock, they know who the popular groups are and are aware many people like it
My sister sometimes tries to engage with me and have conversations about it .. remembering how racist she used to be, I feel grateful for that at least
I'm sure they judged me at first but now they couldn't care less and don't bring it up at all

My family is used to me being into various music genres so they don't care. My sister has heard about BTS and that's about it. My friends find it a bit dorky but since we are adults and they have their own style we just respect each other and rathet talk about things we have in common. But I don't really have anyone to talk about kpop around me.

My brother looks down on me for it but my sister prefers it over normal pop. My parents don’t care much one way or another

Given the state of my area, my mum's just thankful I use money for albums rather than drugs.
