What is the Appeal of These Shows? (1 Viewer)

Basically, any show on TLC is what I mean.
Like shows like My 600lbs Life which is beyond sad and upsetting.
But sometimes can be super inspiring.

Or
shows like Welcome to Plathville where the family drama is heartbreaking
but also somehow very interesting?

I feel like their shows are so easy to get into but I don't understand why?

Let's also not get into their opposing shows.
Like My 600lbs Life and then My Big Fat Fabulous Life.

But anyway why do you think these shows are so oddly addictive?

I think it's just weird because we have an obesity epidemic in America and there is like ONE show that seems to condemn obesity on TLC.

TLC stands for The Learning Channel, I believe. That's probably why they have those shows about birthing, obesity, Fundamental/big Christian families, and international dating.

I wouldn't know about the K-1 visa otherwise.

They are the learning channel but they have shows on there that also serve no purpose like my big fat fabulous life. I mean in that show if anything you see how hard it is being so large. But the only educational factor I can maybe see is that you learn about PCOS but I feel like there is a lot of false information spread in that show by the protagonist in regards to the condition.

True. I've never seen MBFFL but 90DF is just drama.

I guess it's just easy TV, in that it's interesting as it usually a different take on life and extreme issues that some will not experience, so it's kinda like experiencing drama without living it so to speak or making a spektical of it, for some it opens there minds to difficult things in Some cases... But sometimes the shows feel like they take advantage of someone's suffering or obsession (I've watched alot of those my strange addiction shows lol) to make entertaining TV so I'm 50/50 with them sometimes, but I suppose they agree with it due to contracts they sign but you know there not there for the post production editing phases....

It's kinda like the other side of TV, the housewife of whatever, Jersey shore etc easy 'trash' TV that seems ridiculous but its entertaining for some people as it humanises 'the rich and/or famous' people and shows you that money doesn't stop you from acting like an idiotic.
