i don't really watch christmas movies unless they're just playing as background noise, i usually use the free time during christmas to catch up with movies released in that year which i see people talk about but i haven't seen myself

I used to watch whatever was on network TV. Now, I don't watch any.

Yes, because the film's setting was on Christmas Eve, despite the film releasing in the summer.
This was long before studios cared about matching seasonal settings in films to actual seasons and releasing them, I think.

Also, according to Wikipedia, it was filmed during November '87 to March '88.
