If it hasn't already, what year do you think the 4th gen of kpop groups will start?

And, if you think it already started, what year did it start?​

Personally, I'm not sure. I think we are in the middle of a transition phase with 4th Gen coming up probably 2020ish.

While I do think it already started, if I have to choose a year then 2020, not further away than that, it'd be insane to still count the current rookie groups in with EXO, BTS and the bunch

Personally, I don't think we'll know till another group achieve's TWICE/SNSD level success, you know what I mean? Most people claim that gen 3 started in 2012 and now it's coming to a close. But that "close" could be last year or this year, depending on when the next top GG comes into play.

as someone said before, it's insane to put the new groups with some really popular ones debuted 7 years ago

This year, so many big older groups are starting enlistment/disbanding/hiatus, and some relatively successful newer acts are starting to show up.

I think 2019 can be considered the year that 4th gen groups will start to debut and grow, so I think we're in the start of the new gen already.

I'd give it 2 to 3 years even, i'm one of those that think 3rd gen started in 2012 and there has not yet been 4 gg groups that would define there being change of generation if that makes sense.

I think it started last year-ish, the idea of classing someone like straykids together with EXO or BTS seems crazy to me because of the difference in popularity and the way that Stray Kids behave compared to groups from 2012-2015. Idk

I think 2020 because we are getting to some of the early groups of 3rd gen going into the military and ending contracts

2020 without a doubt. This year will probably be the final big push for a lot of gen 3 artist and then they will go into veteran phases as companies prioritize newer groups

I don't really know how to phrase this in a way that makes sense..But for example, Super Junior was on an episode of Idol Room, and they were forced to take on trends that were popular by the current generation, such as flower crowns, being all cute and etc, it's not something that you would normally associate with a group like Super Junior. Similarly, Stray Kids have a more teenage vibe where they express themselves as 'rebels' or in need of self expression, whereas you wouldn't really associate that with EXO or BTS, these groups take on a more 'mature' take. What i mean, is that groups that debuted around 2012-sh don't have the same vibe or they don't really follow the trends that are being set by the more 'fresh' and younger idols. Much like how there was a transition from 'sexy/adult' concepts from 2nd gen, to the cute concepts in 3rd gen.

I mean, imo, you can't say SKZ and BTS are in the same generation. In my opinion, 2017 was the last year.
