Just in general when it comes to schools and teachers?

For me a hundred percent I wish learning ASL was part of every school's required curriculum.
Or at least offered as an option for learning a new language at every school.

End standardized testing and invest that money into schools. So many of the US's problems would be eliminated if they just invested in schools and stop trying to defund them so they can prop up charter schools for profit

there are many things i could say but most importantly, PE shouldn't count towards a student's grades. there are students who are simply not good at certain sports and it's not like with other subjects where you can get a textbook that will make you learn how to play basketball or run 100 metres in 10 seconds. some also simply don't have the physical abilities to do it and they get their grades ruined because of something they have no control over.

very seriously despite having the worst teacher i ever met

i nearly failed a whole school year in middle school because of my low PE grades. all of the low grades in question caused by the fact that i can't swim.

I think PE is important simply because barely anyone is active now. At least in America, it's pretty fucking bad how obese we are becoming.

My middle school was different from my high school. We had a pool and we still just got credit for getting in, even if we couldn't swim, which I couldn't.
What kinda bull was your school on

i don't live in america so i can't speak on that but i'm sure it can be important without having to give people grades based on their athletic abilities. grades based on effort i would support, but some people simply cannot run a certain length in a certain time and there is literally nothing they can do because this is how their body works. i'm mainly saying that due to my personal experience. the quality of the PE classes in my school was extremely low, we'd just play dodgeball all the time and all of sudden there was a lesson where the teacher was like "ok so there is now an exam you have to do this and you'll be graded for it" with no preparations whatsoever. also given how difficult some of the tasks were i feel like the teacher we had herself would fail her own class

my high school didn't have swimming pool lessons, i mean we were supposed to but in the end it was somehow cancelled and never brought up again. on the other hand middle school was a bit extreme to say the least

we had swimming exams which i always failed, the lifeguard was extremely unprofessional ~~and was said to have an affair with the teacher~~ so it's a miracle no one drowned at that school also whenever a girl was sitting out a lesson and told the teacher she did it because she was on her period, the teacher would note it down and sometimes accuse us of lying to her because things "didn't add up according to her"

I don't think they grade based on skill in America I think it is more about participation.

Start separating based on ability earlier imo. That way people who actually excel won’t learn to be lazy and will actually amount to something (totally not talking about myself)

I think in china they're now trying to add pe and art to the gaokao because of the health issues a lot are having due to the intense studying
they added harder exams for post secondary arts a few years back iirc, I think a relative of mine got super lucky

prioritize bringing the lower percentile up instead of pushing the upper percentile to do better, but to have bigger programs for the gifted, ap, etc students

Give kids more options. My whole life in school, I've been told that I had to go to college or my quality of life would be lower, but that isn't true at all imo. Instead of going to college, kids could go to trade school, they could volunteer and find opportunities through that, or do stuff like apprenticeships. Heck they could even go to the military although some military things seem kinda predatory towards kids close to graduation.

And even in college, it would have been nice to know more about the choices of major I could take before I went in. When I applied to my major at first, I really had no idea what I was doing.

And honestly, I think schools really just need to realize that kids are human and arent machines that should constantly be stressing towards a grade. Some teachers at my school have been really uncaring during the pandemic and it's just... not great.

never in my life has a school bond election failed. we throw insane levels of money at schools for zero gain.

i think the us spends near the top per child than any nation in the world for shit results. defiantly more than any country with near the pop levels.

like this is a government site so you know its not factual and the us is still top 5.

Teach basics. math thru algebra. english/ read write, science, history. k -8

Stop treating 4 - 12 like baby sitting. if they will not work kick em out for a year let the parents deal with it.
Be brutal in the application of attendance and effort. Kids do not all have to be A/B students but effort matters.
this will have awful/horrific short term results because shocking numbers will be out on their butts with nothing to do, but long term will work.

Remove the stigma from real work and change/restructure the child labor laws to allow young apprentices say 14.
Allow people to choose that path over secondary ed. as is done in other parts of the world.

Remove all government funding from the university level.
Stop auto enrolling in student loan programs.
