I’m not necessarily right but I always thought of a nerd as someone more interested in various science and technology fields, while geeks are more on the computer or gaming side. Dont know if thats right or not

Nerds are quirky in a cute way and like “smart things” whereas geeks are straight up weird and dorky (not my opinion, just what I have been told)

geek = smarts (my dad is a history and computer geek)

Geeks are “collection” oriented, gathering facts and mementos related to their subject of interest. They are obsessed with the newest, coolest, trendiest things that their subject has to offer. Nerd - A studious intellectual, although again of a particular topic or field.

Nerd - socially awkward, smart, introverted, interested in intellectual pursuits, reading, science, whatever subject, prefers quieter hobbies to stuff like partying, can be loner, doesn’t like physical activity, not always nice - and can have superiority complex and be manipulative, just not physically violent, (typically portrayed as scrawny (guys))

INTELLECTUALLY INCLINED NOT A PEOPLE PERSON OR FITTING THE “POPULAR JOCK/CHEERLEADER VIBE” IN SCHOOL, ANTI SOCIAL, QUIET INTERESTS, USUALLY BULLIED BECAUSE OF PHYSICAL STATURE (in pop culture which was probably based on social norms at that time) foil to dumb jock trope
Usually token asian characters portrayed this way though it can be any race (just this is the stereotype in America) But with geeky interests sometimes for boys (comics, video games)

geek - (typically associated with guys in a time women weren’t even seen as athletic nor smart hence the rest of my definition referencing macho and masculinity and stuff) very interested in a hobby that is out of the main stream and not active/athletic/sporty(or something like fashion/beauty), not necessarily loner but “outcast”, friends are fellow geeks, not good with social cues, (but not necessarily “loner” like nerd, friends with similar interests), not necessarily ambitious or independent like nerds, seen as childish
Often associated as being good with technology (coding, hacking, etc.) because many “geek” hobbies like video games are with technology
Hobbies often very fantasy/sci-fi: comics (characters are underdog and nerd for superhero’s contrasted with mainstream macho womanizers like James Bond) (yes I know not all superheroes fall under this but many do … Spider-Man, the hulk, Superman’s perception by society “timid mild mannered Clark kent”) relateable to outcasts
Escapism (cosplay and fantasy and sci fi like Star Wars) video games, (also games like DND cartoons (not adult cartoons)
very imaginative
Can talk a lot but about one specific thing they’re interested in, not necessarily quiet and “emo”
Less social intelligence, trusting, mood swings (easily happy, something small makes them upset, etc)
Not malicious in actions that hurt other people unnecessarily, (due to genuine misunderstanding of social conventions, emotions, etc) trouble with separating real world from fiction
Usually seen as “loveable” quirky often very nice but “clueless”
Male characters often adored by girls (not necessarily romantically) for their traits (not obsessed with self image, straight forward, “pure”, finds happiness in simple things, “funny”, shy but earnest)
