What's the longest break your faves have had between releases, and was their comeback their best yet? (1 Viewer)

I was watching a clip of SNSD performing Forever 1 this morning, which made me think about how it was such a good song to come back with after a four-year break! (Which I believe was their longest yet, but @RandAlThor will correct me if I'm misremembering.)

But sometimes groups have a long break and the comeback is, like... we waited all this time for this?

Just going through some faves:

• Baby DONT Cry: 5 months and I would say I DONT CARE has been their best song to date. Also, it might seem silly to list them, but sometimes companies debut a group and then do jack all with them for months and months, so good on PNation for actually getting an extra song out this year. Speaking of...
• Xdinary Heroes: 8 months. Their longest gap was between their debut song (Happy Death Day) and its follow-up (Test Me). Studio J was radio silent on them between that time, so it was extra weird. Both songs are very different, and I like them a lot. I might like Test Me more?
• BadVillain: 10 months, between Thriller and Zoom. Personally, I think BadVillain has been their best title to date. I liked Thriller, but the chorus is repetitive, like they couldn't find other rhymes.
• i-dle: 14 months between Hwaa and Tomboy. Tomboy is one of my favorite titles from them ever, so I would say it was their best to date at that time.
• Everglow: 20 months between Pirate and Slay. I even liked Slay, but it was not worth a nearly two-year wait. And then because Yuehua is garbage, we had another nearly year wait for Zombie, which is their last release, boo.

I skipped Dreamcatcher because they have had at least two releases a year since 2017, and I didn't want to go through and count the biggest of a tiny gap. Plus it made me sad again that they released Justice in July 2024 and didn't do even one final release as a group before they split up at the end of March 2025.

Forever 1 is 5 years (aug 7- aug 5)

Red light to 4 walls was only 16 months but it felt like forever.

The ReVe Festival: Finale to Queendom is 21 months also felt like for ever. Still bitter. Everything was setting up for that to be Red Velvets moment. lives on all the year end stages. promote /tour pre onset of the pandemic... gone

Cosmic to the next album will be at least 2 years.


Heart IZ to Bloom IZ was only 10 months but ...we were never sure we were going to get them back.

Every time I think about RV, it's crazy to me all over again how they could have been the undisputed top GG of their gen, and instead, SME hindered their ability to fully reach those heights. I'm hoping that Wendy's move out from under them sets her up to do better. I was thinking just yesterday that she was one of the very few people who covered Golden who could actually support the high notes as well as EJAE can.

wonder girls were inactive from late 2012 to summer 2015 which to me seems like a normal period of time to not release any music in now that i mostly follow non-kpop artists, but from the kpop industry perspective i can understand why it's seen as a long hiatus. the answer to the 2nd question is obviously yes because i think reboot is the best kpop album of all time not to sound pretentious but in general i enjoy kpop groups who take a longer time to release music much more than those who keep churning out mini albums like a fast fashion brand
