Would that even make sense though? For society to run like a well oiled machine, certain people are going to have to work... Having an entire day where medical workers or police don't work sounds like a recipe for success

So what happens when someone breaks an arm? I’m guessing the get off work part is get off work for certain people not everyone.

I'm not sure but if one is full time or part time working then there's sick leave if one breaks an arm
(sick leave is mandatory and paid)

the hospitals (and certain emergency services and some shops and tourist attractions) are still up and running lol
which is why I said if one does work that day they either will get double pay or credit for it

Well in that case you’re saying everyone gets the day off except for everyone that doesn’t. Thanksgiving. All you really do to celebrate Thanksgiving besides thinking of what you're thankful for is to get together with family/friends and eat food. I mean, can't you do all that at Christmas?

I don't like Memorial Day (in the US, I mean – I dunno how other countries do it). But I personally feel it should be a very sombre day. A day to lament the horrors of war, honour those who deserve it, raise awareness on issues surrounding the military, etc., not to have barbecues, party, etc. But because I wasn't born yesterday, I understand sadly why this is a completely laughable perspective
