In my opinion, cancel culture is pretty toxic and there's been plenty of incidents where people get "cancelled" over something so trivial. I'll admit that a person should get called out for their wrong doings, but to cancel someone over something petty is just absurd.

Shitty.

How can there be positive outcome on sth like cancelling another person?
Not allowing change and learning, when things from over 10 years ago sometimes from their childhood is digged up?
Intentionally misunderstanding sth or making it a issue demanding apology cause if u demand one u clearly deserve it?

I think online mobs attacking smaller creators or regular people for minor infractions is a real thing and is a problem unique to certain platforms that enable the dogpiling. Its pretty ridiculous and does nothing to help people and often the people doing it are just as bad as the people they are trying to cancel lol.

But I also think that politicians are using it as the new "political correctness" its becoming just a buzz phrase like that was back in the 2000s. Like when a governor is saying they are being "canceled" its really ridiculous because you are not being attacked or canceled your constituents are pissed that you are making and passing unpopular laws:nayeonisdone:

In terms of it being a "culture" and something people like to use to virtue signal their own goodness, I hate it. But I do my best to separate the actual real issues of influential people doing horrible things actively and currently vs something that happened in the past that was the result of childhood ignorance or stupidity. It has to be a case by case basis for me to say if it's just "cancel culture" or something that is actually really important to talk about

honestly i think cancel culture doesn't really exist in the way some people often claim it does. it all depends on the situation of course, but in kpop most of the time people tend to move on after a short time other than some outrage on social media whenever the idol/group achieves something like irene or mamamoo for example and the things they did never had a serious impact on their careers (which i don't think they should given they both apologised). sure there are things where i think it is completely ridiculous to cancel someone over like underage drinking or something they did as children but also i really dislike it when people use the "cancel culture ruins everything" as an excuse to not hold someone accountable for things which are actually serious and if someone doesn't want to support someone because they felt offended by something that person did then i'm not going to waste my time trying to change their mind.

I feel like if it were used correctly, cancel culture could be an important tool to deplatform people with toxic or hateful mentalities. Ultimately though, I feel like a lot of people who use it are too trigger happy and it has kind of devolved into something that is really shitty.

If someone is just plain toxic then it works but people are too quick to go to attempting to cancel someone as giving a person the benefit of the doubt has become a rarity.

Now everyone from an outside perspective assumes the worst in you without properly judging how logical each outcome is which is where the problem in it lies as if you show an opinion that could even remotely be taken the wrong way you'll find yourself being called prejudice more often than not.
