You're looking at the top only though which is where the boy groups were strongest as said in my previous post since BTS and EXO were able to sell over 1 million while Twice still sold at most around the same as Girls' Generation. You go past the top boy groups though and you get into boy groups which Twice can beat and a more across the board growth spread so it's only a real problem with the very top boy groups.

As for your times well the problem I have with them is that Heart Attack came out in 2015 for one so AOA were still a very popular group and the top groups didn't really switch to 3rd generation fully until 2016 when Gfriend fully established themselves with Rough after Me Gustas Tu and Twice with TT. Another thing as well being you mention AOA being nothing like Girls' Generation, Wonder Girls or 2NE1 well they aren't exactly like each other either tbh and AOA are in the same generation as Apink who are nothing like each other either.

EXID and AOA and the whole sexy trend almost ought to be a separate gen to themselves.
I just think lumping the girls in with the boys in terms of gens distorts the truth.
maybe the gg need to be even smaller

comparing twice to the other GG they are head and shoulders above, even this year when 2 groups made a run at them with an album a piece.
Twice is paying for their increased and prolonged tempo with kids burning out though even with almost no solo stuff.

Bp has some crazy numbers but no content 2 minis that do not even qualify for gda requirements do not cut it.

IZone if they go perma may challenge physically.

RV is solid in the 2nd group range using the frequency deal and consistently solid numbers above the rest.


oh and some one said that 18+ was looking to be 21. i think 18+ is looking to be BP or twice not 21 snsd. You can see that with how may attacked them for copying bp

Going by trends would make things ridiculously small at times like to actually represent that just for 3rd gen would be 12-15, 16-17, 18-?? and as well that only takes into account groups who go by those trends. As even though there has been quite a few girl crush debuts since Ddu-du Ddu-du, you have also had the likes of Cherry Bullet and Rocket Punch who didn't go that route.

The gap between Twice and the other girl groups in this generation is smaller than the gap was with Girls' Generation though as after 2NE1 who nearly reached 200k while the others were only breaking 100k at most. Iz*One as the 3rd best selling girl group of this generation is still closer to Twice than what 2NE1 ever was Girls' Generation while being in 2nd place.

The generations exist for more than just mindless placement but you have to be deep into kpop for the reason to really matter.

They exist to stop unfair comparisons basically like without them I could say EXO outsold Super Junior but they are split into different generations because of achievable success changing with the industry changing.

I can understand there being a reason behind the first three generations.

First gen = kpop established and popularity in Korea.

Second gen = kpop spreading all across Asia.

Third gen = kpop spreading globally.

But after third gen theres really nothing else that can be accomplished. Unless it can become main stream in the west.
