1 is just basically a massive CF that killed millions and set the teams for the next one.
i guess another thing is some lessons were learned about what to do after winning. Which impacted the terms of ww2 peace.

I try to not think about them.
I've seen so many documentaries, movies are being made almost every year.
I agree that we have to learn about it, but i somehow think ppl enjoy learning gruesome details. Hollywood obviously cashes in from it

Definately WWII. My grandpa was in the navy. He told me a few stories and I love WWII history. WWI is interesting too.

Like in so many families we had this discussion in our family too: are we responsible for the sins of our fathers? More specific: my grandfather. He was a fighter pilot in the 'German Luftwaffe' in WWII. Until his dead he was proud of the damn medals he got. He was a 'proud German' until last. There were many collectors that payed high prices for such stuff. But the first thing we did after my grandfather's death: we just throw all his Nazi crap away. He even had a dagger with a swastika! I'm rather sure there are still many collectors that go crazy over such war collectibles. Lemmy from Motörhead collected those things too.

The bitter truth is: it might have been possible that my grandpa fought against your grandpa. But you should be proud, Panda - your grandpa was a hero! My grandpa was a brainwashed idiot. Sorry to say it so harsh, but that's just the truth.

I had to work up the past. For me personally. So I needed more knowledge about WW2 than the things I learned in school. I spent nearly one year just reading books about that topic. My conclusion is that we are not responsible for the sins of our fathers. But especially we Germans had to learn from the past and we had to make sure that such crimes against humanity will never happen again.

Ok .... and the situation now? If there would be federal election in Germany now, the right-wing populist political party AfD would be second strongest party in Germany. Maybe those few hot summer days we had were already too hot and quiet a few people's brains dwindles to 5 percent. But I'm afraid that many Germans can live without a brain anyway.

There are some questionable things relating to them made for money. Like I can kind of understand the remake of Hitlers bunker being interesting but at the same time that level is also a bit weird.

Even then, it’s not always as straightforwards as one side good one side bad. My family’s Russian, not sure if any fought in the war (I think they did? I know my grandmas father or grandfather died in Berlin in a war so maybe) but the Russian attitude towards the war remains questionable. It’s Russia amazing Germany horrible, and even illegal to speak against anything they did poorly afaik. But the mass rapes of German civilian women? The whole non aggression pact where they benefited from Nazis invasion of Poland? The forced labor camps set up for German citizens living in Russia (of which my ancestors were part)? Hard to know of it and call it anything but horrible. They may have been on the maybe less bad side, and they were undoubtedly a large part of the war and the ones who somewhat turned the tide and managed to reach Berlin first, as well as the side with the most casualties civilian and soldier wise. Many Russians experienced horrible conditions, whether in sieges, prisoner of war camps (if they even made it that far), being starved to death in the Nazis starvation plan, but it’s hard to consider them all heroes when they did some sketchy stuff themselves.
