Who’s that one person in your life who doesn't understand privacy? (1 Viewer)

The citizenship thread I made inspired this. For me it’s my sister. She just does not get it. A couple things she’s done/does:

1. Looks over our shoulders when were on our phones. The sheer number of she’s asked “who did you send that meme to” is very high. If I got a dollar each time I’d probably be richer than Elon Musk.
2. She read my neurophysch evaluation without asking. Tbh I didn’t even know about it until quite a while after the fact when she mentioned it to my mom who asked me if I knew she read it. Do I have anything to hide from her in it? No. Would I still rather she told/asked me? Yeah, no question.
3. She snooped through my parents citizenship papers. Honesty not even sure what she expected to find that was so interesting but the weird part was that she did actually find something (which led to questions being asked and my sister finding it about her biological dad. It a was wild). Like I do think it was good she found out about her other family members tbh because I think 18 (which is when my parents planned to tell her) is too old. Still don’t know if snooping through documents was the right way about it.

The funny thing is she has had a negative experience with someone sticking their nose in where it doesn’t belong. She was reading a book in Russian on the subway or something transportation like. Someone basically looked at her book and asked what she was reading, and before she could answer they turned to the person next to them and said in a disgusted tone that she was reading in Russian. I do wonder if that means she understands now that respecting privacy is something people value. Probably not though.

There’s more but I think that’s enough to make my point. And ofc I do love her, everyone has flaws and she’s overall pretty kind. Do you guys have someone like this in your lives?

I have my boss tbh, he always looks over my shoulder into my phone. I ask him if he biases some of them xD

Yes, and I won’t say who just by some miracle they find this post. But they are the type of person to invade my privacy all the time. Nothing is private or else they think I’m doing something bad. Maybe I just don’t people seeing every intimate detail of my life

Altho, in all seriousness.
When I lived with my parents, we had a lot of my dad's family live with us as they'd migrate over. My eldest cousin who is about 11 years older than me would snoop through all my binders and planners. I'd pass notes and stuff to friends in school, if she found the remnants of that she'd read it. And would spy on me and report to my aunt when i went to Sunday school like if I didn't do the homework or if I had my period (it's a sin to have your period and go to temple so this was so embarrassing).

I assume you've spoken to your sister about her behaviour and nothing has changed?

what about fighting fire with fire? aka wildly disrespecting her privacy - going to the bathroom when she's in there? going to her room unannounced etc etc

I’ve told her yeah. She justifies it with the excuse that she doesn’t do it with important/sensitive stuff which makes makes no sense because she does. It’s harder to really actually change things/give her a taste of her own medicine because she doesn’t live with us anymore. When she is here I do sometimes jokingly “intrude” on her privacy, like if she’s reading something on her phone I’d stick my nose in and loudly say “what are you reading”. Idk maybe she’ll get it at some point, it’s been a while ish since she’s done something outright privacy breaking, probably just because she’s here less but oh well.
