Why are kpop fans so weak minded? (1 Viewer)

And by weak minded I mean not tuned to the world enough to burst out of their bubble in regards to kpop history. I get it. Not everyone cares or feels the need to know about what came before. That's fine but it makes you look... not sure what the word I'm looking for is. You just look...mundane I guess.

I on the other hand am constantly wanting to learn about stuff I'm just discovering. Does that make me better than those who don't? Well...kind of. When I first got into Hong Kong Martial Arts movies in the early 2000s I eventually kept going further and further back through time to see how it started and the advances it made. Now I have an appreciation for every decade of Hong Kong cinema. Same with the history of automobiles.

And same with kpop. I didn't get into kpop until 2015 but after my first year of obsessing over nothing but f(x) I wanted to know when and how kpop started and now my favorite era is 2006 to 2012. My next favorite era is 1997 to 2005. I can hold conversations with anyone about any era of kpop now. But the fans that came into kpop in the last few years just assume nothing before 2017 matters so I'm not bothering. That makes you look weak minded and not really a true fan of kpop. Especially when you only listen to three groups.

I understand it's way more fun to be into current groups and not disbanded groups from the past but act like you respect this thing you claim to love called kpop. Do us all a favor also. If you have only been into kpop for a few years then please dismiss yourself from voting in ALL TIME polls cause you aren't qualified. Sure I'm technically still a newbie seeing as how old kpop is but I've done enough research and studied enough kpop history to where I am qualified.

And remember. No song, no group, no IDOL, that came out in 2022 is "All time" anything. I understand that's hard for some kpop fans to wrap their head around. But make a little effort. Don't be weak minded.

lol I'm not old enough to be a grandfather. Most parents my age have kids in middle school. But either way grandparents are allowed to criticize too.

I mean, I was naturally curious too about the history of Kpop, but that’s just my nature. I don’t put myself on a pedestal for it or anything.

a lot of people who are into kpop NOW will not be into kpop next year because it will fade away for them - too boring, too "old" anyway. once you start getting back into the history of it, you realise that you really do have the passion for the music.
I did that when I was into britpop-poprock in my younger years (not that I am not into it still, I have recently heard Black Pistol Fire and I was like OHH, MY ROOTS).

there is a lot of knowledge behind it and I really do wish more people were into discovering it into detail rather than discussing who has the best crop top, but you know ...

You say it ain't that deep but its become culturally more important to Korea than teenage music. Korea uses and embraces it as its main contribution to world history and entertainment. Like anime in Japan. Tea in England. Hamburgers and fries in America.

It matters now. And the groups and icons from yesteryear should be acknowledged and respected.

If they only stan one group, that's fine too. As long as they don't trash the genre as a whole. They do have to recognize the foundation created by groups before them, but sure we can celebrate the achievements of groups now. Kpop is an ever-evolving genre

it's the same for every genre, in western pop the audience of today is more likely to recognise what's popular now than whatever was #1 in 1994 for example. outside kpop i'm more into older music in general and i wouldn't enjoy it if someone insulted my taste due to my lack of knowledge on modern stuff so i don't do the same to people who are interested in what's more recent because as long as they don't go insulting other artists idgaf if they cannot name a single song that came out before 2010. and if someone thinks a song that came out in 2022 is their favourite ever made then they're free to think so because it's not harming anyone

Well apparently it's harming me lol. I haven't been this upset since Red Velvet fans acted like they were SM first girl group since SNSD.
