Why do idols need to keep such a clean image? (1 Viewer)

^ As the title says

Why do you think there’s such pressure for idols to not swear, talk about R rated subjects, no dating, no drinking/smoking, etc… Why do they need to maintain an image that is constantly pure?

Probably to attract children as fans and then to allow parents to let them consume their content they have to have an assurance that the idol is age appropriate

Because companies like to sell the image of the perfekt 'girlfriend/boyfriend' to feed the fans fantasies

They have role model roles, I guess all celebrities do but Korea is strict on talking about these things anyways. You’ll get judging glances even if you weren’t an idol.

The industry and many of teh idols them selves embrace the role model role.
its more of the group before self attitude that exists.

unlike the western stars/fans/ individuals who are ass hats and proud of it.

I also feel like it's to "be a good role model". Even if its unrealistic for them. The whole boyfriend girlfriend image doesn't help either

bcs they're idols. means they have to be everyone's favourite, no matter what age, what gender, what position, they must have the best things in society. perfection in the entertainment industry maybe

Since the labels invested heavily on new groups to potentially become popular and generate profits, in the early years, they will likely be media trained to not make fools of themselves when appearing on variety TV shows, other interviews, radio, which in turn will trail back to the labels if crap does hit the fan.

Once labels witness profit for some years, I think they allow them to cut loose a little bit.
By little bit, I mean brief discussions about Drinking once the youngest members have reached at least 20 years old, Korea's drinking age.
Also, I think the interviews are pre-planned by the shows' producers, hosts, and artists' managers.
And you have to include the number of members, time constraints for shows, and how they're edited in post productions.

Lastly, think about this --- as you know, new fans of new groups seem to primarily be younger demographic as the Majority so they have to keep discussions fun, light, and enjoyable for them to watch along with other age groups.
